Just so you know, the WHO and CDC has not labelled Covid19 a "pandemic" yet.

Less than 200 deaths worldwide (outside of China, Iran, and Italy)

It is of course a major health concern, but of little concern if you are under 60 years old.

Again, flus and viral pneumonia from flu kills 291,000 to 646,000 people worldwide each year

A few thousand deaths in China and several hundred in Iran and Italy do not make a pandemic

There is over 4000 deaths outside China and sustained local transmission in all continents except Antarctica so yeah not a pandemic (except if you read the definition).

  • This is gutter sensationalist journalism at its best, 60 minutes has this clip up on youtube as "the market where covid started". They go to the market in BKK which is basically a pet shop (some illeg

Been a long time since this delicious treat was readily available :shock1:

When I was first in Singapore in the seventies they still had the tables where you could enjoy, tables had a clamp for the head, but alas the servings were no longer available by then.

They mixed footages from various cities including Bangkok but some probably did not watch all the documentary.

I believe you are talking about the early video nasty called 'Faces of Death' and I believe the monkey brain eating scenes were from Nepal. Mid 70's?

WHO (world health organization) says 686 deaths outside China (Italy 366, and Iran 194 makes up the majority)

WHO changed their definition of pandemic for COVID-19 but basically it means sustained local transmission in two or more continents (or WHO region).

"

  • Phase 5: Human-to-human transmission is taking place in at least two countries in one WHO region. WHO has a network of 120 National Influenza Centers in 90 different countries. At phase 5, most countries are not affected (yet) but a pandemic is considered imminent. This phase is the signal that governments and health officials must be ready to implement their pandemic mitigation plans.
  • Phase 6: A global pandemic is underway. Illness is widespread and governments and health officials are actively working to curtail the spread of the disease, and help their populations deal with it using preventive and stop-gap measures."

By this definition the "seasonal" flus' killing 250,000 - 600,000 people annually since 2008, are also pandemics.  https://www.medicinenet.com/script/main/art.asp?articlekey=208914

Yes it is a pandemic. Pandemic definition doesn't depend on the number of death. If you check some dictionary they even define a pandemic as only happening in a single country.

I think I will get reporter job in Australia TV.

Tell me when and I will move away from Australia.

Very disappointed at that 60 Minute report, which I have viewed.

1.  45 million dead was not what expert said - he provided up to 60% infection but was not asked vital question of what death rate would be.  They used current 3% or more to make total higher than what is expected to be 1% or less once testing is being done (most are not tested now so death rate inflated in minds of most experts).  1-10 million might be more accurate with a 60% infection rate from what I have read from experts.

2.  Animal rights group seemed to be on agenda and right or wrong putting blame on CC Market sellers.  It is well known they should be controlled but that is not and never has been a wet market - totally different items except different species should not be together.  As medical expert said danger was the slaughter and meat processing time - that does not happen at CC.  Intermixed video from real wet markets used for effect and not made clear it was not Thailand.

3.  Whole program was done in fear mongering fashion - used to have respect for 60 minutes in USA.

There is great grass fed beef from Tasmania. Not sure about the bacon.

There is no such thing as grass-fed beef! beef is the left overs that was once a live cow that was unnecessarily bred, suffered a short life, deprived of its instincts, then mercilessly slaughtered so that people can eat meat that is scientifically proven to be unhealthy for them!

How callous and stupid is that?

Nice to see that our Strailian friends can take a spot of Banter.

They make good pets some folk tell me.

A Bum Gun to left of throne that we use to clean down our back passage unlike the uncivilised who still indulge in the primitive ritual of wiping down the brown stuff, with tissue that they can be seen fighting over in supermarkets.

I don't buy this at all. The water does not clean as well as paper. The water depends on pressure. If it is too low you'd still be walking around with clumps of faeces stuck to your anus.

Paper, on the other hand delivers every time.

When all the hooplah and calamity calms down after the wuhan covid19  virus becomes a memory, I can only hope that the People of the world all realise (well most) that the Fake News is only interested in sensationalising any story that has any traction and they dont care about the truth or what the outcomes are because of their exaggerations and lies. Just look at what the real damage this virus is doing - about 120,000 infected and about 3000 dead (mainly old, weak, smokers and sick people).

Do you remember swine flu (H1N1) in 2009/10?  In USA the swine flu infected nearly 61 million people and caused 12,469 deaths, and worldwide they estimate over 500,000 people died. Since then the world pandemic responses have been drastically improved and vaccine processes massively increased.  But yet take a look at the total panic being generated around this wuhan covid19 virus - stock markets and economies are crashing - all because of the panic - inflamed by the fake news media in stories such as this one - toilet paper is being hoarded - <deleted>?  Over 500,000 died because of swine flu - because of that the world changed.  SARS and MERS were no where near as bad as they could have been. And yet the fake news media is inflaming this flu as if 45 million are going to die - fake news.

The cases of infection in China and Korea are dropping - they will also drop in the other countries after their new post swine flu pandemic responses are put in place and the virus takes its course.   The panic is not justified yet and IMO never will be.  Yes it is more contagious that most vrius flus and that is the problem - but it aint ebola with a 50% death rate. Seasonal flus have a death rate between 0.5% and 2% (population demographoc dependent). The wuhan covd19 is measuring between 2% and 3% death rate but the real numbers will not be known for a while.  Claiming that this is going to infect 60% of the world is outrageous scare mongering and stating that 45 million will die is fake news at its worst.

Most of us will remember back in the late 20th century when the Y2K bug (an IT problem) was going to crash the world's computers and cause massive deaths and problems - remember that? It was all fake news - <deleted> all happened.  Countries like Malaysia said 'go away' and ignored all the world's IT Experts - and they werre right.  It was a massive storm in a tea cup.  I see the climate change panic as just another Y2K panic - the fear is completely over the top. But the real problem is that the media hypes all these distasters into something far more than they really are - and people still keep believing them.

Sure - this virus is not a good thing and the medical and government process and recommendations should be followed - but there is no need for the massive panic and all the related media driven frenzy.  500,000 actually dies from swine flu.  Guess what - every year about the same number die from the seasonal flus - every single year.

So here is what I say.  If this virus is as bad as the hype and 45 million die, then I will stand corrected and apologise (if still alive).  But, if I am right and this is a massive unecessary panic - then everyone should learn and accept that whatever the next crisis the media inflames is, whatever it is, should be ignored - or at the very least viewed highly sceptically.  That is all I have to say - when this is over - we should have 45 million deaths or we should learn that the media is fake news.

This is not about Trump or the term fake news - this is about people learning that the media always over inflames things for their own benefit and they dont give a toss about what impact they have on the lives of people.  The media loves wars because that is when they are at their most dominant and influential - because people are paniced - and that is the truth.

Wrong.  What you said is only right when there is no water or pressure.  Consider this - you lean back and accidently put your hand on some dog poo. Do you look for a tissue/paper or a tap? Is the tissue/paper going to clean it to your satisfaction, or will you be looking for water and ideally soap - and then finish the job with tissue/paper?

  • Popular Post

No it's not wrong. I've used these supposed revolutionary things, often the water pressure is so poor you have to resort to paper to get the job done.

Yah, yah, I hard this argument about faeces on your forehead, would you not wash it, etc. But the reality is that the anus is a hole. It is not a flat surface like a hand or forehead. There are many wrinkles.

So to get the job done requires hard work, friction and attention to detail. Just spraying it with this low pressure water will not get the job done.

UN con job. The IPCC does the same.
