LOl....... I live in Issan and can assure you that even land owners here are struggling to live these days beyond any hi so living in a high rise in Bangkok......Don't think it was the old General Prayut who introduced Thailand's poor to the 30 bht universal medical scheme was it.

Never said it was, not defending Prayut, as you assume. And if you are in Isaan at the moment then you will notice that not much has changed, village markets operating, crops being sewn and animals being slaughtered.  It also wasn't Prayut that promoted  the Rice Subsidy Scheme.

Can not say that, most were  poor people, and not many modest land owners now, most not very well at all landowners, he brought in the 30 baht medical service ,money for people over 60,money for the handicapped ,only doing what our western country did 50-80 years ago.

If they were bribes why are they still in place after 12 years plus ,successive governments still  trying to bribe the poplars

And welfare has served western countries so well.  Western countries need welfare because the family unit has been corroded due to..... (i don't have the time right now to elaborate) Thailand has a strong family unit that care of their elderly within the family.  Anyone that does not have family support can seek food and shelter from the Temples, thats what they are there for.  Besides do you have any statistics of elderly or handicapped not being looked after?  Because i see very few.

He could actually start by asking the thousands of operetta generals who earn monthly between 100 and 200,000 baht to return the billions stolen from the people

My thoughts exactly, not long back this Government was boasting how well the Country was doing with trillions of Baht reserves and billions of Baht inflows, hence that's why the Baht was so strong,  so what's happened Mr PM.

Hold on for a moment.

If the country are so rich, has so much reserves as we been told times after times, and the virus are on a downward trend why the need to Beg the 20 richest families for "resources" also known as money?

Can't afford to pay 5k for three months, rush open society 1 May, against the trends of many countries who extend lockdown, a lot doesn't make sense here.

I already disabled my western logic and common sense, still I look like this

If the govt. doesn't have billions of dollars in reserve how can they continually prop up the baht?

  • Popular Post

this is so pathetic. I cant imagine any proper country leader doing something like this.

Does he honestly think those rich families would hand the money without any conditions ?

Honestly so so pathetic. shambles of a country.

Prop it up against which currency, "hope springs eternal"?

He should be awarded Nobel peace prize by retrieving Obama's money he used for his castle.

Very ingenious and brilliant egalitarian altruism.

Welcome, ‘Belt and Road’ who joined March 9th. Not the most subtle username, but It’s a username all the same.

Good to read about how Thai people are very family orientated and take care of each other financially. Quick question: why aren’t the government practicing what the preach?

Is it possible the reserves that are propping up the baht are in private accounts? ???? Not everyone is a struggling expat pensioner you know.

i don't understand your question, are you asking why the Thai Government aren't taking care of the people as a family should?

Yes, they tell their citizens that they’re brothers and sisters. That Thais are one big family. So, why not set good examples?

Yes right, because Thais have their own family, a government is for the purpose of supplying infrastructure and not much more. It's not to be used as a tit to be suckled on in times of peril.  Difficult for westerners to understand as they would be lost without their big brother

Seems you’re a newbie to Thai culture and how the government here operates. The Thai government here preaches harmony, togetherness and a “no Thai left behind” attitude, especially in this time of peril. It’s BS, but it’s what’s they say and it’s why people are mad. Some people are accusing them of hypocrisy.

Nice to know the government you have just build things for their citizens to utilize but otherwise just let you get on with it. Almost libertarian. Where are you from by the way?

At least Thaksin helped the poor, cant say the same to this one who's in office.

did he actually improve standards of living and lift many poor out of poverty? he bribed many at election time and he threw some cash at the poor via populist policies, but can you name any capital investment projects that he initiated which have had a beneficial long term effect in improving the stranded of living of a large number or previously poor thais?

Yes. OTOP, Village Fund, Low-cost housing projects, Suvarnibhumi Airport, Airport Link. Skytrain, Subway, 20,000 baht revolving credit (Seed money) that allowed a lot of people to start their businesses (food stalls , market traders...) The standard of living improved vastly in the vilages. So many pick-ups. He gave people there a chance to work/own a business/self employed. Thaksin's economic policies, commonly dubbed Thaksinomics, have already created 5 million new jobs.
