do you make these claims because you know them to be true,

or because you desire them to be so?

Probably makes claims because saw it on youtube and made them feel glad all over.

it looks like overkill, and makes for glorious doomporn clickbait headlines, but it should be effective.  is it a bad thing if they can manage to keep it under control?

The word outbreak means it isn't under anyone's control.

Name another country that China has ever banned tourists from outside of a medical emergency?

I was actually shocked to see that 22 people actually believe the reports from the CCP. They spout nothing but propaganda. Their 'reporting' is worse that Reuters, CNN and MSNBC.

On what basis do you say that?

No Government involvement. Try again.

Late last year, China effectively banned tour groups to the idyllic tropical archipelago, branding it an illegal destination due to its lack of diplomatic status.

As China extends its influence across the Pacific, Palau is one of Taipei’s 18 remaining allies worldwide and is under pressure to switch allegiances, officials and business people there say.

“There is an ongoing discussion about China weaponizing tourism,” said Jeffrey Barabe, owner of Palau Central Hotel and Palau Carolines Resort in Koror. “Some believe that the dollars were allowed to flow in and now they are pulling it back to try and get Palau to establish ties diplomatically.”

In the commercial center of Koror, the Chinese pullback is obvious. Hotel blocks and restaurants stand empty, travel agencies are boarded and boats which take tourists to Palau’s green, mushroom shaped Rock Islands are docked at the piers.

Prior to the ban, Chinese tourists accounted for about half the visitors to Palau. Of the 122,000 visitors in 2017, 55,000 were from China and 9,000 from Taiwan, official data showed.

Very clearly a punishment by China for Palau, for daring to recognize Taiwan. "China weaponizing tourism".

Well done Palau. If the Australian government ever permits me to leave the country again, I might go there now. Amazing islands, and lack of hordes from Communist China’s a bonus.

When it becomes possible to visit Thailand again the presence of the Chinese is going to frighten off a lot of other nationalities.

There are hundreds of other resorts where health conscious people will feel safer and more comfortable. Especially those that know that Anutin blamed us for the spread of the disease and the Thai people took him seriously.

Many falangs have become more disillusioned with Thailand for various reasons (eg expensive & worsening attitude) and will not return anyway.

Ex pats may wish to remain but some of them will no longer want to live in a country that no longer seems to welcome them. Most ex pats will be fully aware that like holiday makers they are just guests in the LOS who can be shown the door at any time and for any reason.

At one time I considered retiring in Thailand. I'm glad I didn't but some I know burnt their bridges and they now regret it.

Unfortunately the British ones with limited funds and no close family ties nor hospitable friends in the UK may also find they're not that welcome in the UK either especially if they are elderly or unable to work.

QUALITY TOURISTS!

YES, to those lovely Chinese who dutifully follow their flag wielding tour guides, buy overpriced souvenirs, invest in luxury condos, and charge up those credit cards with luxury goods in IconSiam.

NO, to the farang bar stool warmers, who haggle their beers down to 60 baht, rent cheap condos, and provide humanitarian aid to the poor families of Issan.

Where can you haggle over the price of beers. I've never ever seen that happen anywhere especially in the LOS, have you!

Are you sure you're not exaggerating here?

Why that? Please explain?

There is now a far lower probability to meet someone with the virus if he is from China than if he comes from USA, Brazil or Europe (UK, Italy Spain, France...)

You know full well why!

Try telling the average man in the street about it. He automatically associates China with Covid 19 which is the biggest crisis we have faced in our lifetimes and so does his pal Joe Bloggs.

Some even refer to it as the Chinese Plague or the Chinese Virus. Others do their best to avoid buy Chinese made products. Whether you agree with him even the US President has similar sentiments.

Why do you think the OP asked us how we felt about it.

I read somewhere that 100 million people were locked down in China this week.

It's beginning to look like Wuhan all over again

Open the airports, what could go wrong.

hahhahah!

well done, palau!  this is where the famous video by weng mengyun, famous chinese instagram influencer, filmed herself eating bat soup!

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, they say. And that’s exactly what you’ll think after trying Palau’s famed delicacy – Fruit Bat Soup. This is truly one of the weirdest foods eaten around the world.

Served in a large bowl of delicious soup bursting with flavor, and a whole bat staring right into your soul.

are they allowed to visit cuba?

Two thoughts.  One, their numbers are as believable as numbers coming out of the US with so many states not reporting nursing home deaths or undertesting.  Second, China's response to the pandemic has made me think there are clear advantages to living in an authoritarian country.....not that I'd choose to live there

There’s clear advantages to authoritarianism if you’re a member of the ruling party.
Watch for sudden outbreaks wherever a large group congregates for any reason that is not party-approved, and for contact tracing to allow those who might be infected to be easily located and “quarantined” in a secure facility.

Maybe because people will be afraid of Covid-25 or Covid-30? China’s an incubator for novel zoonotic respiratory viruses, and this virus was inevitable not long after the Chinese started to travel overseas en masse. The next virus from China may well be far worse.
