PHUKET: Police in Phuket have launched a new campaign in the hope of stemming rising crime rates brought on by the current economic crisis.

The campaign was announced by Region 8 Police Deputy Commander Maj Gen Teeraphol Thipjaroen at a mass assembly of law-enforcement officers at Phuket City Police Station yesterday afternoon (Aug 6).

Present at the assembly to receive their mandate for the campaign were 319 law-enforcement personnel from Region 8 Police, Phuket Provincial Police, Marine Police, Tourist Police, Phuket Immigration, Highway Police and personnel from the Royal Thai Army 41st Military Circle, which has soldiers based in Phuket, and the Royal Thai Navy Third Area Command, based at Cape Panwa.

So they are launching a new campaign.... they are actually going to get the police to wake up and do what they are paid for.????

Give Phuket and Thailand his tourism business back. And don't forget to charge Xi for the damage he caused.

They should start with the 100 b for 100 m taxis.

Arrest all policemen and the detected crime rate will go down. Certainly corruption will fall and anyway half the police have probably been transferred to inactive posts anyway!

It's 200 baht minimum charge just to move Tuk Tuk

The investigation shouldn't take long anyway most of it's all in house or at the barracks ????

Brilliant…the illustrious Major General is a true ‘out-of-the-box’ master of innovation.

He plans to put all the island’s criminals to work selling flowers (see photo). This will give them a profitable livelihood, a sense of personal satisfaction, a pleasant smell, and a reason to turn away from a sad and tragic life of crime.

All forms of crime in Phuket will soon be completely eliminated.

But i thought that Phuket did not want the foreigners??..??..

Does that mean that the locals have scrapped all their slingshots and slander?

The campaign will continue through to at least Aug 12, Maj Gen Teeraphol said.

6 days. Then back to normal.

Normal in low season

That is a claim made sometimes, without proof.

btw, nowhere in the op does it say crime is higher now, seems to be more pre-emptive.

It`s always been a racket during the daytime at the intersection at the end of Bangla road.

It would be better to send them home, then you know who the criminals are :whistling:

Hey! We all know who you are! You take one step back and two steps forward, but somehow your´re still a 150 years after. Try to explain that to Einstein.

His answer: You just broke my theory!

Give the Phuket police a break.  Rising crime involves work and might not necessarily pay off.

In the present climate of Covid, was that really necessary... surely a memo would have sufficed?
