Pilot launch of new 'Phuket Model' to let tourists in likely next month

You make as much sense as them

Well lets take a logical look amid all the whining and moaning

There is not going to be much tourism in Thailand until regular international flights are resumed

So any idea to establish more regular and accessible international air traffic moving in and out of Thailand on some sort of regular basis is a step forward for those looking to travel

Given the current situation no country is going to throw open the borders for a major influx without controls but with international arrivals scheduled more amenable entry process may be considered further down the line

Possibly there are thousands out there who are monied up and prepared for a historic Thailand quarantine experience - I hope so to keep the international travel door ajar

This is starting to be like a fish out of water story, more flip flopping than one can endure as they try to keep the tourism, that they believe they should have alive.  It's already on life support f

  • How about a super good Amulet in place of quarantine.

"He said that tourists under this model must be from the countries where there has been no outbreak for at least 30 days."

I am confused because tourists from Australia and New Zealand will be allowed in the middle of September already. On Aug 29th this source at the following link writes the following below. So there are still cases in both countries.

https://www.aa.com.tr/en/asia-pacific/australia-new-zealand-report-new-covid-19-cases/1956809

Cases in Australia rose to 25,570 with 112 infections reported in the past 24 hours, according to health officials.

New Zealand reported 13 cases in the past 24 hours, raising the overall count to 1,727, including 22 deaths and 1,568 recoveries.

not to forget that Australians ARE NOT PERMITTED to leave the country. What a stupid article yet again!

"Thai Airways International announced on Thursday it planned to launch charter flightsto Phuket from six international destinations in late November this year. The six destinations are: Denmark, Germany, Britain, South Korea, Japan, and Hong Kong."

There were 1522 new cases reported in the UK on 27 August.

TAT owns 30% of Thailand Longstay (Company).

TLCis registered as Thailand Longstay Management Company, Limited, a consulting agency.

TLMC is a private company. The largest shareholder is Police Colonel Ruamankorn Tabtimthngchai. In 2003 it was reported that One Asset Management (HK Company Limited?) purchased 15% share.

www.siam-legal.com real-estate word-file Property Report

Why is it necessary for the Thai government to invest in this private enterprise? It can participate through an MOU as it does with many foreign and domestic commercial enterprises without taking an equity position in the company. This raises issues about transparency and accountability of Thai taxpayer funds, ie. with potential for financial irresponsibility witnessed with Thai Airways. Does TAT's stake in TLC assure profitability to private investors through backing of the Thai Treasury? If so, that's not free enterprise.

And why TLC? Has TAT offered equity in any private longstay type enterprise such that there is no potential embedded "financial collusion"?

I don’t get if there’s 14 day quarantine if you want to day in only Phuket and mingle there after that but if you want to travel out of Phuket you have to quarantine 21 days so what happens to the thai people who go to Phuket on day day trips?

they would be in contact with people having only 14day quarantine before then going home , am I missing something?

Roll it out nationwide immediately.  Only long-stays that come to escape the harsh winters will possibly be interested in going through this quarantine process.  It's almost September so get it in gear already.

If anything has put me off coming back to Thailand this winter ( or ever) it’s listening to this constant drivel and stupidity, with their ideas and plans changing daily. This government is a farce. Thailand is headed for disaster with such people running it.,

Its not designed to make sense, none of their bat sh#t crazy ideas are. Its just a few greedy Thais trying desperately to get richer so they don't have to lay off their domestics or miss the latest Mercedes, they will just blame dirty farangs if there are any outbreaks, they don't give a hoot about the general population.

How Thailand officials handle new cases as a result of the super model should be interesting. The press will have love fest when it happens.

I came through BKK on Friday and saw about half a dozen foreign aircraft at the international passenger gates, so there is movement of some sort.

What was a bit puzzling was that a Qatar and Emirates flights landed shortly after us into domestic, they had both come from Samui.

May have been repatriation via BKK to the middle east, I saw the passengers come off and they were heavily laden with luggage.

I know Emirates have no regular passenger flights to BKK. Lots of cargo and permitted travelers maybe too.You cannot book a flight to Bangkok either.

That's great. Only 2 problems are that Victoria Australia has local infections in the hundreds (well, reduced to 96 or so in the last day, but still...) and Victorians can't even travel to other stated IN Australia. The other problem is that AFAIK Australians are not allowed to leave the country without a special permit from their government and I think a holiday in Thailand won't be a good enough reason to get such approval

Hell! I am not even allowed to travel more than 5km from my home within Melbourne, and that has to be outside of the 8pm to 5am curfew hours. International travel? LOL. Maybe late next year assuming the whole circus does not start up again when China release covid-20 on the world.

"Snowbirds" from Australia and New Zealand?! Our summer is just around the corner, who needs to go to Thailand!!

I just don’t understand why Thailand thinks everyone is desperate to come here? The Country has nothing to offer now, far better beaches exist in Greece for example...with English speakers, sanitation, better food, welcoming.... etc the list goes on... The trip here is hard enough but all these requirements make it a feckless task ... Thailand offers nothing special at all now and people know it.... only prostitution.... Filth, scams, robbery.... etc the list goes on... And soon severe unrest against the establishment....

200 tourists. The massive brains at work. Let's get the 6 million people employed in tourism back to work!

And what will be done with anyone who tests positive on arrival or within the 3 weeks? Throw away the room key?

nobody said anything about Thai airways bringing Chinese into the country so all should be okay

21 days quarantine in Phuket if you want to travel to another part of the country, no thanks. Countries that are covid free for 30 days, Aus and NZ are not covid free, the regular Thai airways flights also include countries that are not covid free and won't be by November either.

I don't see why a country has to be covid free for 30 days if you need a test 48 hours prior to departure and then spend 14 days in quarantine. It's all clueless waffle, give it another 2 months and see the desperation then for tourists.

Bearing in mind the ban on International flights, is that a deliberate typo?

yes and sarcasm all rolled into the last sentence as well, his own words as he does not believe that major airlines will get the first dibs on flights but rather they will be given to the Country's flagship Thai Airways.

Monopoly on flights using Thai airways and ramped up prices probably.

Here we have the concept of the " Phuket Model ", which has not even been trialed to see if it is even a viable option, and already the Gov,t are prepared to roll it out Nationaly.

I hope the Gov,t have as many plans ahead for the massive increase in Covid cases that are going to occur when the Foreign Tourists arrive along with the massive waves of Immigrant Labour from Myanmar, Cambodia Etc.

You have to accept the virus to go forward, countries can't afford to be locked in. The key is how you manage the virus whilst not damaging the economy further.

Farangs who are able to return on an expat flight have to have a covid test within 72 hours of their flight and this is do able however  48 hours turnover and getting results is not very viable.

Aalso I see one of the approved hotel groups charge between 11000 and 33000 per night and that is not their ASQ rate.

Just goes to show this supposed government have not got a clue. Also Aussie's are not allowed to leave Australia without permission from some government office.

Firing squad,  followed by incineration,  you'll  have to pre  book a  package before  arrival along with that insurance and an anal  probe/frontal  lobotomy, pretty  sure theyll be queuing up for this "offer  of a lifetime"

Yesterday instead that tourist won’t be allowed anytime soon and today this? It is just comical now. The PM always squashes all these ideas as he knows none of them are possible.
