Thai road carnage: Pregnant woman among three dead on Petchkasem Highway

Ratchaburi police were called after the driver of a pick-up lost control of his vehicle in the Don Krabuang sub-district on the Petchkasem Highway yesterday.

He was among a family of six from Bangkok going away for a holiday.

Witnesses and dash cam footage indicated the driver was in the right hand lane. He had suddenly veered toward the central median before trying to correct the vehicle that went into a multiple roll, went into the ditch on the left, hit a drainage pipe, flew into the air and ended up at the entrance to a second hand electrical store.

Dead at the scene were Bunmee, 65, and Saithip, 24, who was six months pregnant. The baby also died.

Taken to Potharam Hospital were the driver Saman, 48, Saifon, 18, Thippawan, 41, and an unidentified woman who also later died.

They were all from the same family.

Also found dead at the scene were a dog and a white egret.

A squirrel was trapped in a cage.

The family's clothes and other possessions that had been in the trunk of the car were scattered all over the place.

I wonder who/ what the driver will blame.

No one. He died.

also took out a dog and an egret, were they in

the truck, or just happened to be in the way,

Probably all in cages along with the squirrel ?   bit strange to be taking them all on holiday too.

Three people died, as mentioned above. 2 at the scene, and an unidentified woman later in hospital. So the driver is still with us it seems.

R.I.P. to the victims especially an unborn child who will never feel the sun or wind.

You must have read a different OP than me, as i cannot see that it said the driver died.

Might well be another fallen asleep on the wheel.

Veered to the central divider, woke up, panically steering to the left.

Long weekend ahead. Prepare for more.

The chance of dying on the roads far surpasses death from, or related to this latest virus. The government response to both is lopsided and unbelievable.

Shocking, and to think that clamping down on poor driving/un-roadworthy vehicles and bad roads would be a relatively straightforward exercise. I also feel sorry for the dog, the white egret and the squirrel.

Well, at least we know that fatalities of “big bike” riders will be reduced, if not completely eliminated, now that they have to get a special license. (Yes, that was meant sarcastically.)

Perhaps they could implement a similar licensing regime for any vehicle that can travel over 20 km/hr. Oh wait, never mind.

I apologize. You're right, along with few others.

Another one going too fast, by the look of the truck

Or the damage was caused when he suddenly veered toward the central median before trying to correct the vehicle (overcorrect) that caused it to roll end over end into a ditch where it hit a drainage pipe and then flew into the air and ended up at the entrance to a second-hand electrical store.

Soft shoulder perhaps?

It will never stop. They don't care about speed limits or any simple sense on the road. Government seems to be OK with this too and even decreased traffic violation fees last week.

At the root lies an officially sponsored advocation of systems of belief and understanding.

Systems that have nothing to do with the practical demands and realities of survival in a modern society, rooted in scientific understanding and realistic causational reasoning.

Physical effects are considered to be the results of religious, moral, spiritual and "metaphysical" activity.

And of course, most importantly.........luck.

The blame lies entirely with those who claim to be the only people capable of stewardship of the nation and its people.

Woe betide those who dispute their self-declared "right" to what is in fact.......dominion.

They direct the thoughts, beliefs and actions of the Thai people......each and every individual one of them.

They indoctrinate and anaesthetise the minds of the Thai people.

Every second, of every minute, of every hour, of every day, of every week, of every month, of every year, since the stunted and retarded "revolution", they have striven to make careless idiots and fools of the Thai people.

(The system has proven virtually inescapable for the majority of Thai people, who absolutely should not be blamed for the circumstances into which that system forced them)

The intention has always been to create a nation of, primarily, "livestock".

This they have done with extraordinary success.

The blame lies solely with them.

Won't comment on the post itself, but you have mentioned 'they' many times.

Care to elaborate on who are 'they'.
