By your estimates Pattaya could take another 20-30% before reaching 100% closure.

  • No. We acknowledge that Thais have money but generally have better things to spend it on. For example, Thai families will often go to more expensive restaurants but of a different type. They would

Let's take a wander down central Soi Bua Keow...amongst the remaining bars, restos, massage shops, and clubs.

The new Holiday Inn Express, which opened a few months before Covid hit is closed...until at least 1 April. But I suspect it will be much longer.

The newish (and big) P Plus Hotel on Soi Excite, which opened about a year before Covid hit, is closed. Only a lone guard in the booth guarding this empty investment.

Nothing new there, maybe we should equalise the negativity by posting places open

The purpose of my op, and continuing posts, is to document the effects of the coronavirus pandemic on my hometown of Pattaya. It is a visual record of the places we have lost...some temporarily others permanently. It is not to be negative. If these images bother you, I might suggest you "Ignore" this thread (or start one on businesses that are surviving).

It's not your thread by the way, you just started it. I appreciate some people's default is negativity and like I said nothing new in the above post, the Holiday Inn Express closed for the first time last year around April, the Pizza place at least 6-9 months ago for sale

I think the person who starts a thread, especially one that they update with new posts, it is their thread. I didn't say the HI just closed...or any of the others just closed. This isn't a flashing news thread but a record of what has happened. Brooklyn Diner may have been for sale for awhile but as recently as a month or so ago it was open. As I suggested, please feel free to hit "Ignore" for this thread.

Would the positivity of the small percentage that remain open quell the despair of the many that have lost on the ones that are closed, never to reopen?

Where, or when, does reality come to the fore?

I have seen more new openings this week, than confirmed closings.

If you own a business going downhill yes it's sad as is if you've lost your job but for most retirees it should be mostly business as usual so not much to moan about, everyone I know is happy with their life right now. If you're back in cold UK yes it's miserable

99% of the people in Pattaya aren't foreign retirees...life isn't all about them. And this isn't the Blighty UK Visa Sub-Forum but the Pattaya Thai Visa Sub-Forum so the weather there is irrelevant.

mostly foreign retirees that read this forum, in case you didn't know, I suspect the real negative people are abroad, possibly where it's cold

And you know this how...you have done a survey of the membership or have access to the site's analytics?

The name of the forum is the Thai Visa Forum...not the Thai Retirement Visa Forum.

Enjoyed that thanks, the more it's closed down the better IMO.

In an act of complete insanity (or confidence in Pattaya's future), someone has decided that now, in the midst of the greatest health and economic calamity to hit the world (and Thailand) in a century and which has devastated the tourism industry, is the perfect time to open a swanky whisky bar smack dab in the heart of Soi Bua Kaow (perhaps the rent was too cheap to pass up). Old No. 7 Bar is located opposite Sawasdee Siam Hotel and as you can see from the pictures is a beautiful space...someone really took some time, and spent some baht, to get this place up and running. It would look completely at home on Soi Thonglor or Ekkamai in Bangkok. They just opened their doors this week and the owner/manageress says she will have a  full complement of hostesses in a week or two.

I'm mostly interested in pieces of the up-skirt action.

I think as long as the whiskeys don't cost more than 49 baht and 39 baht during happy hour, the place should do great....

Might be nice to visit after my 99  baht special in The Hungry Hippo.

Volare was a very busy and successful business, until they decided that was not enough.

Not even sure why you would even bother mentioning The Bistro.

Although, having said that you can now find it on Beach Road.
