There was another scooter other that Vespa or Lambretta. Can't recall the name, but it was derided by the mod side, and laughed at by us.

Our meeting area was behind the Civic Center in Dagenham. Some of the more savvy boys quickly graduated onto ford cars. Some girls liked the back seat of the car rather than the bike.

I remember the NSU ' s scooters.!!

reeks  of YMCA  to me

I see kids on waves, scoots riding in gangs.

Apparently there's a New Sukhothai mob & a Old Sukhothai mob who ended up for a fight meet.

A mixture of bike & scoots in Thailand. ????

canopus1969, I hope very much that Vespa in the photo isn't an automatic. Riding a Vespa "sewing machine" should make any purist regurgitate.

I suppose I would say rocker, black leather jacket set off with a yellow silk scarf & polished black leather boots.

This used to be my pride & joy 650 Triumph Trophy

Nice bike.  Belongs on the "Bike porn" thread.

Had to sell the blue bomber in 2005 after 13 years...still looked good. This was the second one I had; previously I had a white one I had for 7 years (found it abandoned on the side of the road, rehabilitated it and off I went).

By the way, who in the hell would ever buy a Vespa automatic like they sell here now?

Ride that for any length of time you will get Scoliosis?

Wrong side of the pond.

I never saw a Vespa, Lambretta ...

HD's, Indians, Triumph and BSA, Nortons - and all at least 500cc

Until the Japanese - i.e. Honda - made their appearance in the 60's

Bunch of long haired poofs....any man admitting to it should be ashamed????????????

Happy days, “ride for a ride” on my Vespa adorned with headlights that weren’t connected, Bank Holidays in Brighton, Hastings and Margate, though I do now cringe at some of our antics.

Brighton Police randomly arresting people, I do sometimes wonder if my life may have taken a different route if I’d been selected for arrest and subsequent court appearance.

Having long hair ? Or being gay ? Feeling a bit insecure in your own skin ?

I have a buddy, 6 foot 4 260 pounds - would love to be a fly on the wall when you called him a poof

Mods didn’t have long hair.

They were not available in the 60's they were more for skinheads

I was definitely a follower of fashion with a Lami and music Manchester was rocking in the mid 60's with the Twisted Wheel alnighters on a Saturday night then off to Blackpool Sunday morning

The one I was thinking of was the Capri.

I wasn't a Mod. I was too young (born in 1967)

However, I did get caught up I the British Mod revival of the late 70s, and early 80s, which then morphed into the scooterist movement. The music scene of that period (The Jam, Secret Affair, The Lambrettas etc) is still somewhere that I delve even to this day.

Nah, I'm just a splash too young. I was a hairy biker mind, black leathers, pony tail, well stacked blonde (I married her too) on the back, terrorising the sea front at Weston Super Mud on a summer weekend.

Which one of the hairy ones are you?

Can't be a daily rider, no drip-pan.

Were you one of the crowd that adored their Lambretta or Vespa..

I used to work with one of the guys who was an extra 'Mod' in the '79 Quadrophenia flick. He wasn't a real 'Mod' and had a work related accident (last time I saw him) on one of our projects so got medivaced out only to be killed a few months later during his recovering period in a motorbike accident.

We used to go for a burn up to Brighton I suppose around 1964 , kick over a line of scooters or stop long enough to tye a few arials in knots then get out sharpish as 10 scooters to one proper bike in those days.  My bro , 2 years older thought I should act my age not my shoe size , he was a loner on this .

By 1966  I was more into ride outs to coffee bars and sterner stuff , the Dragon rallies , Surrey to North Wales at the coldest time of the year. My bro ( with the Goldie ) thinks I came to LoS to get warm again. My Trusty Norton '66.
