Featured Replies

What a drop from 30 mill a year for the amount of tourists going to Thailand, how are they going to spin this?

Please, don't use the word easy....   Rather: it used to be extremely complicated, now it's a little less complicated but still very expensive.

Anyone believing Thailand has the Covid-19 under control is delusional. The virus is airborne,  just Google what type of complications that poses.

Let the powers-that-be come up with all the "targets" they want. I'm targeting my sanity by staying put until there's a truly attractive offer.

You'll be waiting a long time though.

What about the people from UK who have vaccinated?  Are they allowed to enter Thailand without been required to stay in quarantine?

My friends all want to come but they ain’t paying for Quarintie

The Baht strengthened a lot against other currencies today. I doubt they are going to attract that much tourists.

1 USD = 30.04 baht and breaking through the 30 baht soon.

Right now the Covid situation is under control, he claimed, and there are 15,000 rooms for quarantine in Bangkok and Thailand can handle 1,000 visitors a day.

Awesome - separated from family, no alcohol, no leaving the room, overcharged.  Wonderful 2 week vacation before flying home again.

A senior consular official at the Thai foreign ministry has said that the country is targeting 20,000 tourists a month.

It matters not one Jot if its 1, or 20,000

They are all required to wear a Face Mask

That includes YOU

Here is an interesting article that describes what other countries close to Thailand do:

https://www.pattayamail.com/latestnews/news/as-thailand-eases-foreigner-entry-her-neighbors-double-down-on-restrictions-336731

A quick read of this article should be enough to shut the complainers up! It seems Thailand has the most liberal approach for now..

Thailand has spent the last 200 years wanting nothing to do with foreigners and feeling smug about itself. Their society teaches them (and they genuinely believe) that Thailand is the biggest nation in the world, and the best. It knows nothing about foreigners and doesn't want to. All Thailand  wants is their money.

And so it has come about that they know absolutely nothing (other than Hollywood movies) about the Western world at all. They have no awareness of what is socially acceptable, politically correct, how people live, their customs, traditions and religions, what kind of housing they have, how much they earn, the difference in outlook between Europeans and Americans - or even where on the globe these two continents might be.

No wonder, then, they they keep making wild guesses about farangs, how much holiday time farangs have and how much money to spend - they don't have a clue about any of it.

And yet these are the people who are coming up with the policy-making and administrative decisions , in Thailand, today.

If it wasn't so hilariously funny, it would be tragic.

Tell us this on April 1st, we might believe you

It was more like a brick on the head!

Small number, only the equivalent of two full B777's per day.

So all these tourists will be coming from the same place?

Seems odd.

This is from the Foreign Ministry. The Tourism Ministry has different ideas, as do the TAT, ATTA, the Health Ministry, the THA, the Bank Of Thailand and the white haired virus expert.

Every day you open Thai visa and another hare-brained scheme is announced, only to be contradicted the next day. Why do they bother?

If ink were brains, would they ever manage one of these   .  ?

And that is an odd comment.

That's a great business idea.

20,000 tourists a month.

All 2 weeks quarantine.

All suddenly tested positive after 7 days.

Max out the insurance cover of 100k USD

Bingo

Oh the horrors, oh the shock, oh the dismay, and he really believes that this latest outbreak is under control.  So 1,000 visitors a day are expected to fill the ASQ's.  They must be rubbing their hands together greedily just thining about the billions.  What happens when they do not arrive as they think they will.  Well then it will be time to Que the politicians to start jumping out of the windows to save face instead of doing it the Japanese way of Harikari. There is no way a Thai Government official has the willpower like a Japanese official does and would never commit ritual suicide by disembowelment with a sword.  That would never save FACE, as they do not even come close to completing an honorable alternative to disgrace.  However it would be perfect and welcomed by many of the common Thais if those in power were honorable.

It could not work. Asians dont take long holidays, only european/americans take 3-4 weeks holidays at the same time...

Wrong about America... only 2 weeks.  Most accrue days at a time during employment.  Only Europeans (or some?) get 3-4 weeks vacation.

33 on April 1, 2020, now due to drop under 30 any day now.  I hear the downward whirring sound...

They all like to keep the grumpy lot on TVF on their toes, they've got nicknames for all of you.

Most 'tourists' who would be OK with the idea of a quarantine period would be digital nomads.

Why doesn't the Thai Government drop the ridiculous bank account savings requirements for Special Tourist Visas and for allow it for all countries..........but applicants have to show evidence of their basic monthly online income (Above say $750)

If the Thai government makes an attractive visa for digital nomads, I could then see quite few people coming here

I get where you're coming, but all a little over the top. Time to smell the roses.

Yes, Thais are proud of their country and lifestyle as are most people about their own country. They are insular and can be frustratingly naive about world affairs, history etc. Teaching my partner who finished school age 15, history and geography and she's an eager student. Found a Thai history book for young students with loads of pictures, from stone age to WWII, which is pretty neat. She loves historical TV series: Rome, Vikings, now into Black Sails.

A lot of Thais have lived abroad, share their experiences with friends and family, and they are all avid internet users. Many of the political and industry leaders were educated offshore.

Meanwhile, I'm constantly amazed how things get done in Thailand, even if I'm freaked out by the current political leadership. It's easy to criticise, though there is often lack of context, some translation issues.

They were never colonised, so don't have the Western background of many Asian countries like India, Malaysia, Singapore, Vietnam, Philippines, Indonesia. While Japan and China were not formally colonised, they had more Western influence from 17th through to 19th centuries than did Thailand.

It's part of the charm. I love being a guest of a country, which provides so much innocent joy, serenity and not too much political correctness nor myriad of rules. And by and large things work well enough, to enjoy the good life.

For a variety of reasons (masks, strict quarantines, health volunteers), Thailand is right up there in Covid control (recognised by WHO and John Hopkins University). Most countries that have controlled Covid are still shut.

Tourism will return, but not until the vaccines assure conservative Thais (and farang) that it's safe to do so. Until then we put up with half baked announcements, which this forum seems to track relentlessly. That's the funny bit.

They just rised the price of the Elite visa by 20% (from 500k baht to 600k baht)...So I dont think they are planning to drop any fee on visas...

5 weeks, 6 if over 60 with certain amount of insured years (as in social insurance paid for).

That's for AT, there ought to be better ones in the EU ...

Yep.Plus Australia has extended until 17th of March "State of emergency" B.S. so no one's getting out of here until then.Unless you're connected like Abbott,Pedo Pell, etc.

Don't forget Downer. You can get an exemption if you're going for 3 months but don't expect to get any help/advice from the idiots at Border Force
