Alcohol ban in Phuket from midnight

The Phuket provincial authority has curbed the opening hours of entertainment venues until midnight, from January 12 to 20, in order to control the Covid-19 situation in the province.

Issued on Monday, the order also prohibits diners from consuming alcoholic beverages in restaurants and at food stalls after midnight.

The Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration on Tuesday confirmed three cases in Phuket after the second wave in December.

    Yet another misleading headline!

  • Who cares, is alcohol that important. Really?

  • Read again, it says no alcohol served after midnight. This a far cry from a serious alcohol ban   Thought that entertainment places had to close at midnight anyway

must be more cases than 3 if they go to the lengths of an alcohol ban

it's like these businesses doing a random deep clean instead of reporting a case found there

By Design!

There is a significant difference between an alchohol ban "from" midnight, to one "after" midnight.

My first thought was that it was a ban, not a timing issue and thought "here we go!, every Governor will follow suit like dominoes."

It appears an emergency stock up is not yet necessary.

It must be a clever virus, it only spreads after midnight.

The Cinderella approach.. after midnight it gets messy?

This headline is obviously clickbait.............and I guess this post will be removed........

Here in Chiang Mai all bars closed until 31st Jan (at this stage) and alcohol not allowed to be served in restaurants at any time.

I understand there has been an alcohol ban in place in Samui for a week now but have not seen any official explanation relating to it ? I believe take away drink is OK but no "onsite" drinking permitted.

Anyone can confirm ?

It certainly is to many people !

They are worried about a few reported cases of the Borracho Virus. Need to nip it in the bud this time.

No, it is not. But the freedom to decide on your own is!

are gyms open in phuket?

Yes, nowhere is shut.   Only restrictions are that bars/clubs must close at midnight, and restaurants not permitted to serve alcohol after midnight.

No. But haven't we already have enough taken away from us?

It's symbolic because a large majority of people everywhere use alcohol in moderation and cause no harm to themselves or anybody else.

It's like banning water because some people drown.

Been Enjoying the “Charms” of Thailand for a good few years now several times a year and I have never drank even a beer . bought a few for sure ! many think they can’t have a good time without first tanking up ... for courage maybe ... couldn’t face the “negotiation” in the bar without a few bevvies maybe? ... Up to you... as they say !

Been here 7 1/2 years and never had a beer. Bloody lots of whisky though. I can negotiate without drinking and I only drink socially. Whatever people do has nothing to do with anyone else if it does not affect them negatively. Too many people want to push their beliefs on others.

What has been taken away from you?

The ability to travel freely is the first. It makes travel to my native country and back impractical and expensive. There are countless restrictions and a dead economy.

I'm not blaming anyone, and I take every precaution, but this virus has not helped anybody. It's that simple.

Add some lime and make it a Tom Collins.

And it's even healthier with that added vitamin C!
