No one cares about 10 baht per day, not one person on this thread cares about the amount. 
 

People do care about the disregard those in positions of decision making power show towards foreigners coming to Thailand. 
 

If it’s not one guy announcing dirty foreigners, it’s dual pricing, retirees being kept out of the county & their homes for excessive months, announcements of higher fees for foreigners at hospitals, 90 day reports, TM28/30 etc 
 

In such policies there exists a distasteful slight  aimed at foreigners which highlights elements  underlying xenophobia.

 

Of course 300b is nothing, but scratch the surface and there exists traces of an ugly element no one wants to see grow. 
 

It’s just disappointing to witness, Thailand doesn’t need to be this clumsy with its policies.

 

Agree and if TAT had said something along the lines of " All tourists coming to Thailand must have full comprehensive travel insurance " , now that would show care  , earn respect and achieve much kudos instead of a cloak concealed , unqualified  purpose of monetary demand to be laid on all arrivals including children .

I cant understand how anyone seriously can get upset about a 300 baht fee for tourists. most fees i understand. The only dual pricing that i deeply opose, is the dual pricing in hospitals, where even dual national children with a Thai passport, have to pay the expensive farang price. Read my post on page 4.   It's not just a 300 baht fee.  It's 300 added on to everything else that tourists get charged. 

Sure its a great way to raise money from cash cow foreigners, since the stupid tourists believe it's only 300 baht ($10).  Simply by having 10 different fees all with different names and all collected in various methods, throughout all stages of the tourist's stay in the country. Its a brilliant method to take money from them under their noses.  But what else are they going to charge people? For breathing air perhaps? 
Who knows what they will add next, and at some point tourists are going to say, well  when you add up all the extra compulsory costs (you know 'cuz 300 baht is nothing!), it's probably no different to price to go to any other place in the world

I can remember about 20 years ago I was bringing my new girlfriend from Phuket  to  Australia for 3 moths holiday At the airport I went through immigration but she was stopped despite all paperwork being  in order and a heated discussion was taking place .It was now near departure time and the lady from  Thai came looking for us. It turned out that the I.O. wanted 500THB to let her through so  I had no choice ..had to pay up  or miss the flight and the connection to AU.

Pre-Covid, the queue lengths at airport Immigration Arrivals desks were a national disgrace.  If the plan is to collect the 300Baht from tourists upon arrival at the airport, this will make the queues even slower to process.  (ASSUMING, of course, that tourist arrivals ever return to anything like they were before.) (and, if they don't, the geniuses in charge will cut staff at these desks!)

Perhaps the governments of other countries should consider reciprocity ?  Whatever the Thai government does, other governments do the same. For instance, Thais cannot own land wherever they are living outside of Thailand. Thais cannot work without a work permit, even if they are resident or married to a citizen. Thais must pay for healthcare for ever, or have insurance for ever. No using, for example, the NHS free in UK after gaining residence. Thais must report to the police every 3 months, for ever, even if married to a citizen. Thais must have Covid insurance of at least 100,000 USD for ever. Thais must have at least 10,000 GBP or 20,000 GBP (depending on their status) in their personal bank account for at least 3 months of the year, and report to immigration every year to evidence it. If the spouse of a Thai national dies, then the Thai national must leave the country they are living in or find 20,000 GBP to keep in their bank account every year in order to stay.  Marrying a citizen of another country will not give any rights at all, or any right to live in that country for ever.

If you can tell me that they we need to be nice AFTER they put a 70-year old Aussie in IDC Bangkok (recently) because the Thai wife and family refused to take care of him  AFTER he had taken care of them for 30 years ... gratitude and respect is absent .... 

Why not launch an air bridge and drop tons of money on Thailand ? 

Not because of the 300 THB but because of COVID and the great economic slowdown ... international tourism is finished - sadly ... 

 

So what difference does it make Thailand will collect 3.000 / a year ... with this scheme ...

 I do. It is a cash grab and I do not believe it will be used for the benefit of tourists. The government already collects tourist tax because of hotel surcharges. What the government does not say is that because tax avoidance schemes by Thais are so bad, much of the tax does not get to government and instead stays with Thai business people who keep the money. How about Thailand reduce the hotel tax surcharges which were collecting the same thing?

You have a choice to come or not. I highly doubt any tourists will complain. Seem to be a lot of expats living here complaining, I wonder why? When things start getting back to normal if ever. The 300 baht will be to blitz the media showing a deserted  beach with clean sand and coconut trees. Your slice of heaven is waiting...

 

When you arrive you are hit with filthy beaches, Vendors selling beach umbrellas wall to wall. And breathing air that is a health hazard.

 

Basically the same thing that is going on now. Advertising is getting more expensive I guess.

I've just returned from Koh Mak; deserted beach, clean sand, coconut trees, no pollution. What on earth are you talking about, Pattaya? There are great beaches here.

This actualy is happening in a lot of european countries already it's called tourist tax . But when it happens in europe i don't hear anybody complaining but now it happens in thailand suddenly the world is to small . And it's only 300 baht what are we nagging about . I just hope it will be spend in the right way but that's where the problem starts in my opinion .
