Household Cannabis Plants Start in Buri Ram

 

 

BANGKOK, Feb 10 (TNA) – Deputy Prime Minister and Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul will tomorrow hand cannabis seedlings for villagers to grow in Buri Ram province. 

 

Dr Kitti Losuwannarak, director of the Medical Cannabis Institute, said Mr Anutin would ceremonially hand cannabis seedlings to people of Ban Non Malai village in Khu Muang district of Buri Ram province on Feb 11. 

 

According to him, Non Malai Thai Herbal Community Enterprise and the public clinic of Ban Non Malai village received cannabis seedlings of the “Thai Stick” strain from Chaopraya Abhaiphubejhr Hospital in Prachin Buri province.

Can't see them handing out clones or cuttings?

I thought they would only be growing male plants for the hemp/ If not , what do they do with the buds/flowers?

You can bet your home that going forward they will reap the rewards through licenses etc

This is a different program from the Hemp initiative.

 

Other Thai articles say the buds/flowers will be processed and used for palliative care.

 

So the farmers/families make some money.

I guess not so many for a little bit of weed are jailed...

 

No discussion regarding the criteria required to be one of the lucky villagers allow to legally grow the plants.  Unless I hear otherwise, I'm going to assume it's a small subset of "special" villagers who have connections to "special" officials. 
"Each household will receive six seedlings to grow for medical and health purposes."  Really? 

 

When I see an in-depth article detailing how the scheme actually works, then I'll change my mind.  Until then I'm skeptical.

   Anutin is stumbling along in the right direction away from the disastrous War on Drugs.

   Would you rather have somebody in charge like a Thai version of Harry J. Anslinger - a certified nutcase - turning out films like Reefer Madness and jailing people for life after being caught with small amounts of The Weed With Roots in Hell?

   In spite of the farcical appearance of the unfolding decriminalization and limited legalization process, real steps forward have been taken in the past few years.

   They should be encouraged and hopefully in the not too distant future it will be available to those who find it helps them deal with physical and pschological conditions, or simply as another condiment for monkey-ball soup.

It sums up the present situation very well.

While the legal status of home growing is still in contention the chao ban around our small fruit farm in Saraphi are starting to grow it as though it were already legal.

Things will be sorted out sooner or later. The plant is too useful and effective as a traditional remedy for what ails you to be suppressed by draconian and senseless laws the way it has been for so long now.
