Thailand to start rolling out COVID-19 vaccine on Feb 25: Anutin

Thailand to start rolling out COVID-19 vaccine on Feb 25: Anutin

8pm.jpg

Thai media Bangkok Business News reported that Prime Minister Prayut Chan-ocha had wanted to keep a lid on the exact date of the rollout of the first lot of vaccine from the Chinese company Sinovac.

Some 200,000 doses were due to arrive and he privately told cabinet colleagues it would be about 25th February.

This did not stop his DPM and health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul from almost immediately spilling the beans.

In bold letters on his personal Facebook page just four hours later the DPM stole the PM's thunder by saying that 24th February was the date and by the 27th jabs would be in the arms.

This forced Prayut to come clean with a more precise assessment of the start date.

BBN did not report any disagreement or annoyance between the pair at the head of the Thai government.

But Anutin - famous for his "dirty farang" outburst last February, his negative comments about his own health service and a series of non-mask wearing gaffes - has been testing the patience of the PM, notes Thaivisa.

This latest break with protocol is unlikely to have made matters any better between the PM and his billionaire minister who rose to power on a wave of support for his Bhumjaithai party's promotion of the legalization of marijuana.

PM confirms first COVID-19 vaccine doses to arrive in Thailand later this month

Paphamon Arayasukawat

BANGKOK (NNT) - The Prime Minister has confirmed the first 200,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccine will be arriving in Thailand, with first jabs performed 3 days after arrival.

The Prime Minister and the Minister of Defence Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha has confirmed the first 200,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccine from China’s Sinovac will be arrival in Thailand in late-February.

After the arrival in the country, health officials will take 3 more days to make preparations for the first administration of this vaccine to the Thai people. The vaccines will be distributed to different population based on a set priority, with instructions from manufactures suggesting appropriate age group for different types of vaccine.

Following the first lot, 800,000 more doses of Sinovac’s COVID-19 vaccine will be arriving in the second lot, followed by 1 million doses in the third lot.

These doses will be administrated as the second shot for the first groups of people who have received the first shot, and the next groups of people carrying infection risks. Other factors such as occupation as manual workers and residency in tourism areas.

The Prime Minister said the first 26 million doses of Astra Zeneca’s vaccine will be arriving in Thailand in approximately May or June, followed by another 35 million doses on a later date. Once they are arrived, health officials can start making the vaccination plan to promote continuity and conformity.

On the registration of COVID-19 vaccines, the Food and Drugs Administration has officially registered AstraZeneca’s vaccine for emergency use in Thailand, with the registration for Sinovac’s vaccine to be completed before the arrival of the first doses. Currently, Johnson & Johnson is now processing the registration with the FDA, while talks are being made for the Moderna and Pfizer without any documents sent yet to the FDA.

The Prime Minister said the vaccination campaign is a part of the State of Emergency imposed to curb the spread of COVID-19. Private firms who wish to import the vaccine by themselves will need to seek approval from the FDA, and must give the vaccine to the right population group according to the government’s strategy, to ensure the safety of all people.

That's 100,000 down, 69,530,000 to go.

Nothing would repair Thailand's situation more than becoming a highly vaccinated destination, and yet they continue tripping over each other to make a buck.

It's a golden opportunity for the already obscenely rich to make even more money.

Money worship is part of the culture though, hence the gold on their religious figures and buildings.

15-16 million vaccinated in the UK - Thailand still waiting for it's first dose - probably promised by China for flight 29th February.

People claiming Thailand are doing well in this pandemic should look at the pathetic purchase and roll out.

Despite many other countries either getting the AZ vaccine or starting to manufacture the AZ vaccine (i.e. India), Thailand will not get their 26million AZ until May or June...perhaps.

...and the chosen AZ partner in Thailand will not even start manufacturing until June...some 8 months after they announced the partnership...

Surely, when selecting a Partner in an absolutely time critical pandemic, experience and readiness to manufacture would be the first 2 check points..

...and whatever happened to the 50,000 AZ vaccines that they published an article every single day since December?

I could care less...but I do enjoy a chuckle at the expense of the Thai Government.

That's not even enough for the Generals ????

China has arrested the leader of a multi-million dollar scam that passed off saline solution and mineral water as Covid-19 vaccines.

The man, identified as Kong, had researched the packaging designs of real vaccines before making more than 58,000 of his own concoctions.

A batch of the vaccines were smuggled overseas, but it is not known where they were sent to.

wonder where they went?

So the Health Min., Mr Weed man, said the other week that he wants to ensure Thai people are safe and have access to only the most tested of vaccines.  And now we are dumping the least safe and least effective of the vaccines on Thai people.  Hmmm... wonder what could be up?  ????????????????

This odious Man would test the patience of a Saint.

Personally I am leery of the Chinese and Russian vaccines. I would lean more to the Moderna vaccine and the Pfizer vaccine. Whether they will be available to the mere farang is another thing.

Yes, specifically the arms of Prayut, Anutin, and all the other great leaders before anyone else gets a look-in. No wonder he's excited, lol.

So much talk about such a tiny amount of vaccine.   Save your breath.  Let me know when you actually have a roll out--this isn't it.

I know a number of Thais and falang residents of Thailand delaying return to Thailand in order to get vaccinated with either the Moderna or Pfizer vaccines, rather than the Sinovac or AZ varieties being purchased and distributed by the Thai government. The differences in measured efficacy are very motivating.

And all the lab-rats sucking through straws the rest of their lives.

Anyone see the news today about all the fake Chinese vaccines being sold under than brand name?

How much should we bet that Thailand is getting a bunch of it?

I’m one of them. I’m not wasting my time when something that could be fake (news about this today) or at best have a 50% efficacy rate.

Not sensing much of a "plan" here.

Maybe it's top secret?
