Thai govt confirms list of approved vaccines for foreigners to enter Thailand with reduced quarantine

The Thai government has released its latest guidelines and requirements for foreign tourists wanting to enter the country.

 

From 1 April, foreign tourists who have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 are only required to undergo 7 days of quarantine. 

 

Travellers who have not yet been vaccinated are required to undergo 10 days of quarantine, while travellers from some African countries are still required to undergo 14 days of mandatory quarantine, such as Botswana; Cameroon; Congo; Ghana; Kenya; Mozambique; Rwanda; South Africa; Tanzania; Zambia, and Zimbabwe.

 

According to a post in the Royal Thai Government Gazette, vaccinated tourists need to be able to prove they have been vaccinated with “a vaccine, approved, and registered with the MoPH or approved by the WHO, no less than 14 days before the travelling date”. 

 

“However, they must be from countries with no mutated strain of SAR-CoV-2 virus as announced and constantly updated by the MoPH”.

 

The Thai government has also released a list of accepted vaccines, which are:

 

• RS-CoV-2 Vaccine (CoronaVac) by Sinovac (2 doses needed); 
• AZD1222 by AstraZeneca/Oxford (2 doses needed);
• AZD1222 by SK BIOSCIENCE – AstraZeneca/Oxford (2 doses needed)
• BNT162b2/CORMIRNATY – Tozinameran (INN) by Pfizer/BioNTech (2 doses needed)
• Covishield (ChAdOx1_nCoV19) by the Serum Institute of India (2 doses needed)
• Ad26.COV2.S by the Janssen Pharmaceutical Companies of Johnson & Johnson (1 dose needed)
• mRNA-1273 by Moderna (2 doses needed).

 

Anyone who is unable to provide a valid vaccine certificate, an original paper or a print-out of an online vaccine certificate, to the International Port Health Control at the port of arrival will be required to undergo 10 days of quarantine.

Next question, what will constitute an acceptable proof of vaccination when there is currently no systematic certification in many countries, and no globally accepted documentation beyond the old yellow book, which can be easily counterfeited.

They have just significantly reduced their pool of potential tourists. 
They can't get out of their own way in their rush to completely destroy tourism in this country for the next five to ten years if not for good.

Not to worry.  Just the 7 day quarantine will knock out 95% of genuine tourists.  The ones who take their precious vacation days and head off for a couple of weeks to spend their money like there's no tomorrow.

There really won't be except for very tiny countries like Israel or Denmark. The United States will have dozens and dozens of " passports " by this summer. Thailand can figure it all out I'm sure.

Most of the vaccines don’t stop you carrying the virus, they just make you asymptomatic. The local population isn’t vaccinated, so seems there is a huge failure in logic here.

Don't worry most countries ban their nationals travelling outside their borders. Europe suffering third wave owing slow vaccination programme  and unlikely to have vaccinated sufficiate numbers of their population this year. Quarantine will deter most tourists. Thailand should expedite its vaccination programme and plan to reopen some time next year if all goes well

They weren't thinking very clearly if they want to encourage tourism from China and Russia, that's for sure.

 

They have included only two of the five (authorized inside of China vaccines.)

 

Which means that at least 50% of the population here receiving Sinopharm VERO, CanSinoBio or the new one authorized by the Chinese CDC would be out of luck.

 

When you go to the clinic or hospital in China, there are currently long lines that are being announced within just 24-48 hours and you have no control over which vaccine/s you receive.

 

It would be ridiculous to go out and get another vaccination JUST for Thailand when the Sinopharm one is around 79% effectiveness (50% is the bottom of acceptable range), which is arguably better than the results from the two Coronavac vaccines that Thailand supposedly is approving.

 

One would think that SOMEONE in Thailand is actually looking at the situation in China more closely or carefully than an English/Economics teacher in an international high school in Wuhan.

 

Especially if the stated goals are an increase (at least beginning in October, when China celebrates its National Week holidays) Chinese and Russian tourism.

What is BIBP?

 

On my vaccine "receipt" for the second dosage April 23rd, it refers to it as "VERO."

 

I know that Sinovac has two different vaccines as well, so not sure if Thailand is approving one or both.

 

According to the article (quoted below), China was only at 65 million vaccinated out of 1.4 billion (one dose+) as of two weeks ago.

It is the fifth coronavirus vaccine approved in China and the fourth to be given emergency use approval. Three of those given emergency approval have since been approved for general use. All were developed by Chinese companies.

Sinovac is approved for use in Thailand. I think it's the only vaccine beong used here t the moment.

 

I'd be a bit stupid not to allow Sinovac-caccinated foreigners into the country!
