A navy personnel patrol in the Chiang Khong area of Chiang Rai intercepted six Chinese nationals after they crossed over into Thailand from Laos.

They were all men aged 17 to 25.

The border between the countries remains closed during the pandemic.

The men claimed they were on a shopping trip in Thailand.

They did not have proper papers and are now in the custody of immigration.

Naew Na said that such an incursion was the latest example of the Covid-19 regulations being flouted.

  • Judging by the ink on that first chap, pretty sure he wasn't looking for the shrimp buffet.

  • On further investigation it was found that they were actually...........................................................??????? ????

  • Great news! Job well done.  I would, however, like to know how many enter undetected.

In 2019 it would have been the "latest example of Immigration regulations being flouted."  Funny that they don't mention that.

By the looks of them probably running drugs over the border.

Anyone flouting immigration controls in this current situation where quarantines are mandatory deserves to do some time inside.

That will probably depend on connections, influence and whether/who they were working for...

There are some very well connected influential " businessmen" in this neck of the woods, whose investments run deep.

No problems - shove them all in a hotel quarantine and then hold them in prison until the hotel bill is paid , then deport.

Meth at wholesale prices fresh from the triangle?

And the Thai article seems to say that they didn't come with empty bags.

Should have paid the fee at the first time of asking... now, they've become horrible examples of what happens when you don't pay into the soldier's benevolent fund with a smile.

Seemed like a good idea at the time....

Should have let them in, given them a good chance to get the UK Variant Covid, and then just sent them back

Oh really!! Knowing the area as a former Tourist Police Volunteer based at Chiang Rai, I "bet" they were leaving the vast Kings Roman Casino, hotel and entertainment complex in Laos (Golden Triangle Special Economic Zone) possibly to seek illegal employment in the very lucrative illegal on-line gambling in Thailand, despite being many recent well publicized  "busts" by Thai Law Enforcement agencies.

Nobody would dare upset the Chinese or Saudi governments

Yes most of these dodgy Chinese border hoppers are involved in the casino or online gambling operations, the Burmese authorities rounded up 200 of them a couple of years back in Tachileik

Maybe they were scouting locations for the new mega-dam and casino complex......

What are you doing here?

Picking up some girls and drugs for my boss' casinos.

Shopping it is.

Reminiscent of those Russian assassins caught in Salisbury a few years ago saying they were there to see the cathedral.  Maybe these guys should have said they came to Thailand to see the River Kwai bridge.

On the other hand, maybe the lads were looking for a little of the famous Thai wildlife that begins after dark.
