Thailand’s Center for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) on Friday announced a series of new measures aimed at limiting the spread of the coronavirus.

The measures, many of which were already reported earlier, confirms that 18 provinces are now declared ‘red zone’ or highest control zones.

All other provinces are now ‘orange zones’ or high control zones.

According to CCSA spokesperson Dr Taweesilp Visanuyothin no province is in lockdown and no curfew has been ordered, despite erroneous reports in Thai media.

However, provincial governors have been given the power to authorise curfews if the situation in their province worsens.

Some of the measures introduced for red zone  provinces include:

  • All bars, pubs, karaoke and entertainment venues closed
  • Restaurants must close by 9pm, no alcohol can be served
  • Restaurants can offer takeaway until 11pm
  • Shopping malls must close by 9pm
  • Convenience stores/supermarkets must close from 11pm to 4am
  • Schools and educational institutions closed
  • Events with more than 50 attendees not allowed
  • Amusement parks closed
  • Children’s play areas in malls closed
  • Gyms and fitness centres must close by 9pm

Some of the measures introduced for orange zone provinces include:

  • Mostly the same as above
  • Restaurants must close by 11pm, no alcohol can be served
  • Shopping malls must close by 9pm
  • Convenience stores/supermarkets must close from 11pm to 4am
  • Schools and educational institutions closed
  • Events with more than 50 attendees not allowed
  • Amusement parks closed
  • Children’s play areas in malls closed
  • Gyms and fitness centres must close by 9pm

Provinces declared ‘red zones’:

Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Chonburi, Samut Prakan, Prachuap Khiri Khan, Samut Sakhon, Pathum Thani, Nakhon Pathom, Phuket, Nakhon Ratchasima, Nonthaburi, Songkhla, Tak, Udon Thani, Suphanburi, Sa Kaeo, Rayong and Khon Kaen.

Provinces declared ‘orange zones’:

All other provinces

Travel is strongly discouraged but not prohibited. People are urged to work from home where  possible.

The new measures come into effect on 00:01 on Sunday until the 30 April 2021.

No curfews, but then there is nothing now open Between 11pm and 4am, so why would anyone really be out and about.  No gatherings, no bars, no late night munchies, so in essence a pseudo curfew.  This is supposed to encourage people to reduce their travels and movement during those times.  Back to where we were last year for the kids going to school as well, at least until April 30th.  Looks like this school break will end up like last years with kids being stuck at home....argh

We will talk about this in Two Weeks , sadly

are they not a convenience store?  According to the list and what I heard, nothing after 11pm is to be opened.  Restaurants can stay open to 9 for dining in and then until 11pm for those food delivery riders to pick-up and deliver.

I guess inter provincial travel from/to red zones will not happend without quarantene?

Travel appears to be allowed but they would prefer folks to stay where they are.  Wonder how you get gas if your traveling between 11pm and 4am.

Bangkok Airways will close its ticketing offices in Bangkok, Chiang Mai and Phuket from April 16-25 due to the current COVID-19 crisis and the situation is expected to intensify.

The airline said its office-based employees will be allowed to work from home for the time being, but its front-line employees dealing with ground passenger services and in-flight passenger services, as well as operating system staff will strictly follow the precautionary and prevention protocols.

These employees will be required to wear surgical face masks, gloves and face shields and are requested to wash their hands frequently as well as limit their travel to high risk areas.

So flights are still allowed.  With no provincial border restrictions I wonder how many will continue to travel for the school break holidays.  Our trip to Chonburi has now been canceled since we can not hit the amusement park, the dinosaur park or even Nong Nooch gardens.  Oh well, next school break, maybe.

Love em to bits and they are really no trouble, I don't love the power bill when they are here, any discounts on the cards??

Since world news has gone, TVF has been really up to date and informative with news in Thailand. Good job!

Waiting for Immigration offices to be shut down... or is it just wishful thinking?

Another nice day scuba diving in phuket today. Going out on a boat again tomorrow. Will have to see what happens after Sunday at midnight.

"No national curfew but provincial governors now have the power to declare by themselves. But with 7-11 and restaurants closing at 11pm, and travel discouraged, it is virtually a curfew anyway. Just not in name."

Yes a Pseudo Curfew.  Gas stations are the other issue as many have convenience stores attached to them, and this would create a travel dilemma for those who travel at night like we do starting at midnight for most trips.  Only have to avoid the drunks and trucks with no rear lights is all.

"

“There is no curfew and this is not a lockdown yet,” Prime Minister Prayut Chan-ocha said in a televised address to the nation. “We sympathize with businesses that will be affected.”

“Closing everything down is easy but many people will be in trouble and there will be more officials on the ground and that could lead to the spread of the virus as well,” he said."

Massage shops...I like me a good kneading once a week?

If your area is like mine in central Bangkok there will be many, esp. down little side streets with no lights on but the doors ajar, that will be ecstatic to see you-but can we relax for a massage knowing what we're risking?

Relieving stress is what it is all about, isn't it ?

Just to be clear, they're talking about the new restrictions taking effect at the end of Sat. night (midnight) going into early Sunday morning.

Travel outside between 11 p.m. and 4 a.m. is not banned, but government says it's strongly discouraged...

Regarding the nationwide closure of all schools and education institutions, government says that applies to in-person class learning, but doesn't apply to remote individual instruction.

Government says for now they have a sufficient supply of hospital and alternate hospital beds to meet the need in the BKK metropolitan area. Says they have prepared some 8,000 hospital and various alternate hospital beds in the BKK region.
