500,000 Sinovac doses arrive in Bangkok

BANGKOK (NNT) - The final 500,000 doses of Sinovac’s COVID-19 vaccine purchased by Thailand arrived at Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok today, joining the 2 million doses previously received for Thailand’s immunization program.

These 500,000 doses of Sinovac’s CoronaVac vaccine was transported on Air China’s flight CA603 Beijing-Bangkok, which landed today at Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport at 5:35 a.m.

The shipment of vaccine was then handed over to the Government Pharmaceutical Organization (GPO) Director Dr Withoon Danwiboon. The vaccine doses will be stored at DKSH Thailand’s temperature controlled warehouse at 2-8 degrees C., while mandatory quality control inspections are performed by the Department of Medical Sciences.

Once the vaccine is cleared following the inspections, the Department of Disease Control will distribute it to healthcare facilities and vaccination centers, where the vaccine will be given to targeted groups.

Sinovac’s vaccine is currently the main type of COVID-19 vaccine being used in Thailand, besides a small number of AstraZeneca’s produced in South Korea.

Current vaccination guidelines issued by Thai health authorities suggest that the Sinovac vaccine be given to people aged 18-59 years old, while AstraZeneca’s vaccine is for people 60 years or older. Both vaccine types require two doses for full protection.

Sinovac’s CoronaVac vaccine has been approved for emergency use in Thailand and several other countries, however this vaccine type has yet to be formally approved by the World Health Organization, nor has its Phase 3 clinical trial data been published in a peer-reviewed medical journal.

A small number of Sinovac’s vaccine recipients in Thailand have reported stroke-like symptoms after getting the jabs. Health authorities have quickly described these events as immunization stress-related responses, stressing the vaccine is still safe for use.

The Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha announced yesterday in a televised broadcast that the government has readjusted its vaccination program target, planning now to vaccinate 50 million people using 100 million doses of vaccine by the end of this year.

Most of the vaccine used in Thailand will be the AstraZeneca vaccine produced locally by Siam Bioscience, with the first six million doses scheduled to be delivered in June to kick start the country’s mass vaccination drive.

Meanwhile, the Thai government has recently been in talks with other manufacturers to procure more types of vaccine for the country. The Prime Minister said yesterday the government will be securing 5-10 million doses of Russia’s Sputnik V vaccine, and 5-10 million doses of Pfizer’s mRNA vaccine. The exact amount or the availability timeline of these two vaccine types in Thailand are still unannounced.

In addition to the 2.5 million doses of Sinovac’s vaccine, the Chinese government will be donating 500,000 more doses of the same vaccine type to Thailand, meaning the Sinovac vaccine will account for 3 million doses given in Thailand.

From Pet Shop Boy's song Opportunities (Let's Make Lots of Money)

Oh, there's a lot of opportunities
If you know when to take them
You know there's a lot of opportunities
If there aren't, you can make them

I'm sure the thinking at the top is "At this point it doesn't matter what we inject as long as we can say we are injecting something..."

But, hey .... At least they can say that they did their best to avoid those dirty western vaccines.

You can't blame anyone here. Chinese now don't even have to wear masks, they are back to normal, we should learn from them not criticize them.

Why not ask for 100 million then there will be no cases?

It's killed 3 million people, why is'nt there some action against China???

They're still lauding this arrival of some more doses, yet Sinovac has been shown to be roughly what?.....60% effective in trials. Let alone the severe side effects from that group of people in Rayong last week.

What's the point of shouting out loud how much vaccines has arrived!?? Isn't it more reassuring instead to announce how many people have been vaccinated against what they have and a realistic eastmate of when and how they are planning to vaccinate the rest of the population. What a bunch of imbeciles.....

If they already had 2m vaccines, why have they only vaccinated 1m?  Clearly they have not yeat set up the machinery for mass vaccination throughout the country, but the government insist that 50m of the poulation will be fully vaccinated by year end!  mmmm

And isn't it that less than 15% of the Chinese people are vaccinated? Now tell me how that works. Do they have a secret they are withholding? Do they have a mysterious untold of CV-19 eliminator they put into the air or the water systems? Or is none of it the truth? what the world does think is that the CV-19 came from that country. So none of what is being told makes any sense.

500,000 doses of useless <deleted>. Bettter off praying and doing yoga than injecting that garbage into your arm. Wait for Pfizer or Moderna.

Vaccinations

Total

Thailand

23 Apr 2021                                    Total% of population

At least 1 dose  934,449                          1.3%

Fully vaccinated  160,996                      0.2%

This is the chart which shows that since March 15th, only 1.3% of the population have had 1 dose and Fully vaccinated with 2 doses 0.2%  Unless the Government up their game considerably, perhaps using Army personnel, they will never reach their target of 50m by year end. And they have not even used all the 2m doses of Sinovac that they already have plus 200,000 doses of AstraZeneca in their possession!  They are just sitting on their hands by the look of it!  0.2% per month or even 2% of the population per month for the next 8 months would still only cover 16% of the population, around 11m. And that is assuming they can get their hands on all the "promised" vaccine!

If it came from a western country, China would scream foul play.

So if the SinoVac has a near 50% efficacy with its double dose—shouldn’t we try two double doses to make up for its weakness?

Stop all the fanfares and photo shoots on the arrival of a measley 500,000 doses of vaccine, OK a total of 2 million for a population of 69 million, its a pathetic effort by this Government,

And yet they still can't get the jabs done because it had to be checked, and how long will that take Mr Anutin......

Oh you mean  flobbing and gobbing everywhere, yeah we can learn so  much from them.

I will tell you the Chinese secret: they basically locked the population of Wuhan in their homes for an extended period.

They also caught a break: millions of Wuhan residents left the area for Chinese New Year, before they could get infected. So, at the critical time when there was an obvious epidemic, the province was partially deserted.

I get it. China isn't all it's cracked up to be.  No reason to go full on Anti-China everything.
