Phuket foreigners to get leftover Sinovac

PHUKET: Foreigners staying in Phuket will be able to register for a state-provided COVID-19 vaccination from tomorrow (June 2), with vaccinations of leftover Sinovac vaccine doses to be rolled out on Thursday and Friday (June 3-4), it was announced today.

 

The news was delivered by Pracha Asawathira, an academic with the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society (M-DES), who joined Phuket Governor Narong Woonciew for his ‘Governor meets the Media’ press conference at Provincial Hall this morning (June 1).

 

Mr Pracha in his position with M-DES is involved in the operation of the ‘Phuket Must Win’ web portal [www.ภูเก็ตต้องชนะ.com] for registering in Phuket to receive a state-provided vaccination.

Both have now been approved by the WHO.  The vaccines are as safe as any of the others.  And in the end, we're all going to need a jab, and probably a booster within a year.

There are many ways to deliver same message. 
 

I do not know if it’s reporters choice of words or actual words of authorities but it sounds as if feeding leftover food to a street dog.

 

final result is the same no matter what words one uses , but I wonder why send the message in this way, not in a more nicer, welcoming way

They're not offering Sinovac to over-60s so the most vulnerable are still going to be jabless.

“We have 29,690 doses of Sinovac remaining from April, and we will provide those doses of vaccine to registered foreigners on June 3 and 4,” he said.

“Right now, there are 22,613 migrant workers [believed to be from neighbouring countries] and 5,758 foreigners [usually meaning Westerners] who have been registered, giving a total of 28,317 [foreigners] in total. 

 

With a 2 year shelf life, it's hardly the dregs of anything.  In any case, if you're in Phuket and want the jab, here's your chance.  They have enough for all the registered foreigners, including westerners.

 

Or you can wait for something different.  And wait.  And wait...

Sir people who do not  get the jab in the west then get offered more and more expensive prizes.....It pays to hold out....I am expecting a free car giveaway in time...

Well I'm down here temporarily, the WHO just gave the 'green light' to Sinovac. Hmmm, get the first jab ? who knows when the all important second jab will be available ( when the 2nd jab leftover vials are available I would imagine ). Continue waiting......  what's the ETA on the Moderna, Pfizer, or JJ to the land of lacking vaccines ?

The WHO approval just announced states that there is no upper age limit ???? 

 

The earlier Thai approval removed the over 60s limit once the PM had avoided Sinovac and got his Az.

 

Sinovac has proven to be reasonably safe and at least somewhat effective. Whilst not my vax of choice it's still far better than nothing!

Apparently, WHO:

 

 

In a statement, the independent panel of experts said it recommended Sinovac’s vaccine for adults over 18, with a second dose 2-4 weeks later. There was no upper age limit as data suggested it is likely to have a protective effect in older people.

What does that mean? will it be vaccine that was left over in the vial after a local was vaccinated and perhaps they could scrape a dosage or two out of a few vials for foreigners? Or did they say that Thais will be vaccinated first and than foreigners?

Not sure about Pfizer or JJ, but Moderna will be available from October. I have registered with my local private hospital for this, as they contacted me.

That's okay for Phuket, they get the un-wanted Sinovac...

A friend of mine in Khon Kaen sent a message in Line to me yesterday showing a letter that had been posted locally asking for all foreigners to register for vaccinations from June 1st as they will be included in the vaccination programme within the province... I wonder what they will get?

As for my province nothing said yet... so I'll wait for all the Sino-whatever to be used up and hopefully get AZ in a month or so, I'm happy to wait for July.

I'm not so sure, it does say "vaccine from April" so those doses will likely be approaching the 6 month shelf life imposed by the GPO and Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

I think you can read into this announcement that there are leftover vaccines because ofhesitancy oflocal Thais. Maybe they are worried they will not reach the 70% goal.
