A purchase order for 25 million doses of US made Johnson & Johnson vaccine for Thailand has been signed, according to Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha today (Monday).

The prime minister revealed the new development when he visited a vaccination site at Bangkok Youth Centre (Thai-Japan), as Thailand began mass inoculations in many parts of the country today.

25 million doses from Johnson & Johnson, which was approved by Thailand’s Food and Drug Administration (TFDA) in late March, as well as eight million more doses of China’s Sinovac CoronaVac vaccine are expected later this year, to meet the target of 100 million doses, Mr. Prayut said.

The Jansen covid19 vaccine data suggests that it is a 2nd tier quality vaccine.

The only place Jansen comes up is in the photo and I think that's an editorial "oops".  The text mentions Pfizer and J&J (and Sinovac), not Jansen.

J&J is Jansen.

I will admit nearly all having two names it is confusing, like Sinovac is also known as CoronaVac

Here we go again.

as I said a couple of days ago, get ready for daily announcements of millions of vaccine doses on the way so as to divert from the chaos of no vaccines.

today we even had two. 10 mil moderna and now this 25 mil J and J. But nothing likely to be available before the end of this year.

pitiful.

So, the editorial oops was on my part.  My bad...

The parent company is Johnson & Johnson. Janssen (with a double 's') Pharmaceuticals is the arm of J&J responsible for their CoVid-19 vaccine.

The Jansen covid19 vaccine data suggests that it is a 2nd tier quality vaccine. More importantly, the manufacturer is unable to meet quality requirements and production timelines.  "Could have" potential is not acceptable under the present circumstances. Thailand needs an effective vaccine now,

The Jansen vaccine does not have date to show that it will work against the new variants, particularly the more infections Delta (Indian) and the new Kent-Indian variant.

1. Efficacy:  For mild to moderate COVID-19 14 days after vaccination was 66.3%

For severe to critical COVID-19 14 days after vaccination was  76.3%

For comparison sake; Pfizer vaccine found an efficacy of 95% 7 days after the second dose. Clinical trial data of the Moderna vaccine reported an efficacy of 94.1 %  14 days after the second dose.

2. Jansen has been unable to meet production timelines for its non USA clients. For example, it most likely will miss June EU  delivery date ;  https://www.reuters.com/business/healthcare-pharmaceuticals/jj-unsure-meeting-june-covid-19-vaccine-supply-target-eu-nos-2021-05-27/

3. Jansen relies on contract manufacturers, some of whom appear to have quality issues. Canada has been sitting on its 300,000 batch received in late April as it continues to  investigate and test quality. That is not a good indication.

The vaccine may be  good for use in USA, but this does not mean it is good for use in other country.  It is quite obvious that during the  past 6 months while Jansen was  working on  getting vaccine out, the virus mutated. Due to format of  vaccine, it may no longer be as effective as once hoped. This also holds for similar vaccines like Oxford Astra Zeneca, Russia and China  versions too. Everyone needs to  reformulate and make  new version  and boosters. This is what Oxford Astra Zeneca is doing and will have ready for October. Jansen has made no announcement. I hope is not purchasing the vaccines that USA, Canada, and EU no longer want.

Thailand seems intent on scraping their vaccines from the bottom of the efficacy barrel.

I read in the past few weeks that quite a few members were signed up to receive the vaccine today.

Look forward to hear how that went, but it's deafening quiet.

My wife got her first dose of the vaccine today, right on schedule, at the Hua Hin Hospital. It was AstraZeneca and she's due to get her second dose in September.

I have an appointment to get my first dose on July 6.

Can always count on you Thai bashers to try find the cloud in every silver lining.  Such an inspiration.  ????

It is worse than all the various accreditations at the start of a movie.....

The PO has been signed.  Has it been presented to, and accepted by the manufacturer?  Terms and conditions accepted, and delivery specified?

"The cheque's in the post" ......

This is a bit confusing.

Seen more recent reports since yesterday of 20 MM Pfizer and 5 MM J & J.

J & J might be more available given the recent pause/re-start?

No clue who will sell these? Private hospitals not part of the Moderna order?

I wonder who singed it..

Prayuts hand must have been wavering so much, the pen would never have touched the paper.
