buying new car tires

Featured Replies

Wife says she might want new tires soon. (She drives some smallish 4-wheel car that looks like every other car.)

The only thing I know about tires is that they feel rubbery, they look circular in shape, and the prices vary drastically on Lazada.

Are there any brands I should avoid for reasons of safety?

I'm like you, all cars look alike to me...

I get tires at one of the chain stores as they will gladly check the tire pressure whenever I want for free and will not even accept a tip... I would think any Lazada shipping costs would negate some savings and where would you go for guarantee/warranty

If she uses it like a car(no racing, stunting etc)any tire will do.

small tires are not expensive, you can go look if they have any thing on sale so you can save some money but most tires will do.

Pretty important part of the car, however I do understand wanting to keep it simple.  Here's the technical part:

Any of those will be ok, the main factor will be the speed rating, which you will see from this, almost any rating will be OK for a small low powered car.

So to sum up , just go for the cheapest you can find.  I personally wouldn't use Lazada, not that they won't supply a good tyre at a reasonable price; just that the garage ( fitter) won't be as interested in looking after you.

if it's her car and possibly she knows more about this car, her requirements and about tires more than you (or can find info from her friends and from known to her car mechanics) leave it completely to her. She needs to learn it by herself to know for future.

no point of searching on lazada for something unknown to you and chose from thousands offers.

just the nearest garage will do, with middle range offer. My wify usually goes for the top range, because it's about safety, not comfort.

Maxxis or Deestone. The two budget-priced tire brands that are any good.

If she is tootling around the city I wouldn't worry too much....if she is hammering up and down motorways then I would just go with any well known brand name..........(maybe not Firestone though)

Firestone isn't such a popular brand in Thailand. Most of the tires sold in Thailand are made in Thailand. There's also some imported from Indonesia but not as much as comes from China. I would avoid cheap Chinese tires.

I just call into a tyre shop and they will recommend suitable tyres, I never buy anything Chinese though as nothing made in China lasts. there are plenty of other options, the shop will fit and balance there and then, a quick easy job, nothing to stress about.

Mrs NL went a reshod the sports lorry while I was away. She got a deal on 18" Maxxis Bravo A/T and paid 14k baht for four, balanced and fitted. She sent pics and they mounted them right (dot opposite the filler valve). They also will do a free monthly Nitrogen pressure check and top up, free repairs for 3 years and free tire rotations every x,000 km.

Chinese tires now dominate the HD truck market in N. America, except for steer tires.

Based on price and long life

That's North America, as I said I wouldn't buy anything made in China.

What difference does it make ? Tires are tires - roads are roads

So you do not watch TV ? Use a cell fone ? I could go on, but ...
