Popular Post webfact
By Praphorn Praphornkul BANGKOK (NNT) - A federation of nighttime entertainment venues and businesses, along with performers, have submitted a letter to the Prime Minister calling for relaxation of restrictions on their operations or a clearer timeline for reopening, with MPs assuring they will seek aid for them. The letter was submitted to Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha in his capacity as chairman of the Economic Development Committee and asked for clarification on plans to aid nighttime businesses currently completely restricted by COVID-19 measures. The letter was received by Bhumjaithai, Democrat, Pheu Thai, Move Forward and Seri Ruam Thai party Members of Parliament. Demands in the letter included an end to the blanket closure order affecting nighttime entertainment venues, an unlocking of particular activities by their businesses by August 1, 2021 or a clearer timeline until reopening, vaccinations for their staff and suppliers, a clear plan for financial assistance and an open forum on relevant policies. Representatives of the federation indicated that they have received no aid despite the closure resulting in unemployment and loss of revenue, and say that they are ready to speak with relevant agencies to find usable solutions. They asserted however, that their goal is to return to work within a clear timeframe, pointing out other public spaces have been allowed to reopen under sanitation protocols. Democrat MPs gave their word they would pass the matter on to the relevant bodies, while Bhumjaithai MPs said they would coordinate with the Ministry of Public Health on vaccinations. Pheu Thai representatives said they would follow up on aid measures, in particular the 500-billion-baht loan taken out by the state to provide assistance to businesses. Seri Ruam Thai MPs said they would also work to vaccinate nighttime workers. -- © Copyright NNT 2021-07-02 - Whatever you're going through, the Samaritans are here for you - Follow Thaivisa on LINE for breaking COVID-19 updates 1 1 1
Popular Post bkk6060
With deaths and cases at all time highs? Maybe they should stay home rather then gathering in a crowded group to submit a letter. 11

Popular Post ikke1959
Are they stupid??? Clusters were found in the night entertainment and must be closed at that time. But the Hi So and the government officials who owns the bars will loose money money now and so they have to reopen. But the restaurants and bars of the normal people must be closed. Not many cases or clusters after in=dining, but in Tonglor was different. Still look what happened in Bangkok and Pattaya last week, when there were people arrested for sitting together and drink beer. That was not allowed and now the HI SO want to do the same.. 6
Popular Post Mickeymaus
Obviously they don't get the message that their kind of business is one of the most problematic in respect of Covid transmission. If they don't even understand this PLEASE don't let them open their businesses. In respect of vaccinations - they need to vaccinate their customers too and not only the staff... 4
Popular Post Walker88
Couple this with the article here yesterday about some restaurants planning to ignore the latest restrictions and serve dine-in customers, or do 'flash mobs' where they set up al fresco dining venues around Bangkok, is yet more proof that not only is the economy being hammered, but those hurt expect the govt to offer some sort of compensation for the financial losses. There have been statements regarding the 500B baht govt bond issuance to be used as compensation for the economic damage being done to Thailand, and it seems some groups want to be the squeaky wheel that gets the grease. Perhaps these groups believe, rightly or wrongly, that any such bond issuance would be used solely for cronies of the govt leaders, so being vocal makes these squeaky wheels difficult to ignore.
Popular Post smedly
I think the main point here is that they have been forced to close (through government gross incompetence) without any ongoing sustained support - basically thrown under a bus...........................where has all the money gone ?, the massive approved emergency budgets over the last year that seem to have disappeared into ..................thin air

Popular Post robblok
These venues should remain locked especially with the higher and higher numbers. If they open now it will spread even faster. I do understand them as they are not making any money. The government should help them like in other countries. I don't understand the farangs who want to open it as they are not making money from it and only think of their selfish pleasures. I get it going out is fun and important but not with numbers that are rising like crazy.

Recently the PM said that in 120 days it will be over. But I am not sure if Covid will obey. So in the end nobody really knows it.

Now we are seeing how hospitals are having problems. The death rate will only increase. I guess your dying for a beer.
overherebc
Tell me I'm not the only one who gets the impression that so many out there believe that once you've had a vaccine you can't catch or spread Covid.
ehs818
It's my opinion that nothing will improve, and in fact will continue to get worse, UNLESS a coordinated lockdown and vaccine program is put in place. How can we ignore the virus spreaders and continue to expose others to Covid and not vaccinate? I'm dumbfounded at the lack of cause and effect that I see here on a daily basis.

Those are just an indication of actual infections. then go visit a hospital which is filled with infected people. Unfortunately, for some people they need to see same catastrophe as in USA, Brazil, India before they understand the issue.

Thomas J
It appears to me that the government has a distaste here for bars, nightlife, and alcohol in general. They appear to be using the Covid Pandemic not to truly safeguard the population but financially ruin those involved in activities they don't care for. There is no true legitimate reason why a person can sit in a restaurant, take a mask off, dine, even drink non-alcoholic beverages but be prohibited from drinking one with alcohol. From a pure safety standpoint, I would sooner be in a bar or a nightlife establishment versus being packed like a sardine on a BTS train but the latter draws not condemnation from the government or for that matter even a warning that the crowded conditions may be a location for the spread of Covid. 1
chalawaan
You remeber those cold war mind games in a bar with mates, where you'd get tipsy and declare that if the four minute Nuclear War Alert happens, you'll grab the nearest pretty girl and get busy for one more final happy ending as the warheads home in? Well, if the bars open in the middle of a Delta-21. wave.... Now's your big chance! Edited July 2, 2021 by chalawaan gramma!

I do see the insanity in the rules, but we are in this mess mostly because salim clubs carried on with the girls and the top shelf booze. Sad to say but the worlds most addictive and destructive drug by far, alocohol, is a definite issue when it comes to people and superspreader parties. At least we can still "get a room" with one willing playmate and get blind drunk in private, just dont upset the snooping sellout neighbours. RichardColeman
One of my all time favourite historical entrepreneurial figures was Crassus. I thoroughly loved the way he would buy up the businesses as they burned for far less than the market value. Give it another 6 months and there will be the rise of the Thai Crassus's !

khunPer
Even that I personally miss dancing around in the nightlife, it seems to me like the nightlife is missing little sense of reality, or perhaps it's just utterly bad timing, when they sugests reopening in a period with closed worker's camps, suggestion for wearing facemask in homes to stop transmitting the virus, and daily record breaking numbers of new Covid-cases and numbers of death.
