Workers in lockdown are not being given food by the government as was promised causing a desperate situation in construction camps, volunteers told Thai Enquirer on Thursday.

“I have been to 11 camps and none of them are being helped,” said Neeraj Trirongaubon, the owner of Tum Tum Somtum Pattaya (Sathon branch) and a representative of a food donation network.

“They cannot work, they do not have money, so they cannot buy food. We need to help them,” he said by phone.

Holy. This is so wrong. Prevent folks from earning a living, forcibly restrict their movement, and then neglect to care for them? Unbelievable.

food by the government

Help from the companies that are hiring them is of course out of the question.

They're probably the very same people....

As if it's not been bad enough reading this forum today ... and now this.

Unbelievable, but apparently true.

Genocide? Someone should ring the UN - maybe that's the way the Czar will fall ...

This is nothing short of criminal. The world is watching Thailand

This government finds new ways to f*** things up on a daily basis.  I presume most of the Thai construction workers escaped to the village before the internment began so maybe that’s the answer- only migrants left and we all know what the government thinks about migrants, hell about any foreigner.

A government spokesman will appear with a prepared statement.

' There's been a misunderstanding ...........................'

Where is the Red Cross !  Where are the rest of the international humanitarian organizations ! They have responded in the past  ,when Govt, for one reason or another, don't  come through  during a crisis !   I haven't seen  hardly any news articles on their support efforts for these construction site workers ! In general its mostly Red Cross  Blood drives in the news.  Food and supplies , practically non existent  !

This is an utter disgrace

and if they are not feeding them then they definately won't be testing and treating them either

shameful

but of course many will say - how dare you look after foreigners and not look after Thai people first - pretty much the same attitude as vaccines

a sensible and accurate comment from you - I gave you a like

like I already mentioned

I would like more info on the two recent fires in Bangkok - were they sites were people were being detained

  • Popular Post

they have put army to guard those camps, so army should also be responsible for organising food.

They have manpower and resources on every front.

Most likely those provisions are ending in some general's warehouse.

There suppose to be some 5k monthly, half from employer, half from the government

Quote

“Most of the Thai workers have left and some migrant workers have left before the lockdown, but the majority of the migrant workers have nowhere else to go to and they cannot go back home because they cannot travel between provinces,” said a Thai contractor who is in charge of two working sites in Bangkok on the condition of anonymity.

This Government here in Thailand has really reached an all time low with this.

Government credibility was poor before this report, but now they will just be seen as low life, who dont care for Human beings at all.

There are not just the workers in these Camps that are locked in, but also many of them have Children as well, that are also locked inside the Camps.

When the Immigrant Labour were locked into the Canning factories of Samut Sakhon, there were several reports of mistreatment of this kind, and also shortages of Electric and Water.

The International Human Rights Organizations have to step in now to protect these people from the Thai Dictatorship, who are treating them as badly as the generals in their own Country.

This is a crime against humanity... whilst the people who run this country swan around Phuket encouraging tourism - people are incarcerated, starved and denied access to basic medical treatment. My eyes cannot believe what they are reading. Every day the situation worsens, everyday the behaviour of this govt worsens. Shocking.

Nobody's watching and nobody cares.

Thailand doesn't care about it's own people let alone migrant workers

Have to concur with this.

To overwhelming majority of the world Thailand is the beach and palm tree they see on Television or movies.   And that is it for having any further concern.

Well said. If this isn't a human rights atrocity I don't know what is.

Unfortunately 99.9999% at most will ever hear about this. Tourists will still return home with glowing reports.

But what about Thai people, are they not vocal about this?

This is a complete and utter disgrace. I do not know how the government is able to top this performance of arrogance and incompetence paired with stupidity. But I am sure they can.

I don't disagree. However I would use the term 'outright evil' rather than incompetence or stupidity.
