Thai study finds 2 doses of Sinovac can’t beat Delta variant, AstraZeneca can

Inoculation with two doses of China’s Sinovac vaccine can boost the neutralizing antibody level to 80-90% and provide immunity to the Alpha variant of the COVID-19 virus to some extent, but cannot fend off the highly contagious Delta variant, which is becoming dominant in Thailand and many other parts of the world, said a prominent Thai doctor today (Friday).

Two doses of the UK’s Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine can, however, immunize people, with neutralizing antibody levels of over 90%, against the virulent Delta variant, according to Head of the Thai Red Cross Emerging Infectious Diseases Health Science Centre, Professor Dr. Thiravat Hemachudha, who conducted a joint study with Dr. Anan Jongkaewwattana, a virologist at BIOTEC.

The study reveals that two doses of Sinovac, plus a booster dose of AstraZeneca, can prevent the Delta infection better than two doses of Sinovac, but still less than two doses of AstraZeneca, the doctor said.

So they are still ordering and paying for and injecting stuff that doesn't work.    You can only assume someone is earning greatly out these deal with China

  • And yet the cabinet approved ordering 10 million more doses of Sinovac just this week. By the time they will arrive, there will be only Delta (or worse) making the rounds in Thailand.

Oh, really? Unless you can come up with links to credible sites that support your astonishing claim (good luck with that) your post is just trollish disinformation.   Why You Should Not Use

This should be a good discussion...

From the study:

"Although there are no mRNA vaccines available in Thailand yet, for frontline medical personnel, who are mostly inoculated with Sinovac, getting a booster dose of AstraZeneca will be enough to protect them from contracting the Delta variant"

said Professor Dr. Thiravat Hemachudha, who conducted a joint study with Dr. Anan Jongkaewwattana, a virologist at BIOTEC.

Predicting this would be a pattern for a while…

Vaccinated individuals allowed to travel and such. Vaccine loses effectiveness. The vaccines must now get new, better vaccinations. And the story goes…

This is what I have been saying for a long time but the pro Sinovac posters on here, just continually avoid the Delta part and post endless links to so called "legit" Alpha variant "studies".

Can I take the booster shot of Astrazeneca right away ? I ask because I take my 2nd dose of Sinovac on Tuesday

Yet how many who have had the first dose of the AstraZenica vaccine are still waiting for the 2nd one.  12 weeks apart is what they have been going with.  Wonder how just the one jab of AZ does versus the 2 Sinovac jabs, and if the one AZ jab gives one a fighting chance.  Would like to see a study on that.

What a miracle that despite the Thai government promoting and pushing Sinovac for so long now, it now turn out that AZ as suggested by a "Thai doctor" , produced in house by u know who, can fix the problem. Miraculous that or is it just luck or else this "Thai Doctor" has found something that the world has known about for some time ?

It's just that these people are finding their voices now that the situation is getting serious.

Some people have just flat out refused to accept that Sinovac is not effective for whatever reason? we even see it on here.

good news for thailand which is using the AZ
bad news for Cambodia which is using sinovac

Here we go. After being vaccinated with Sinovac we are told you need a <deleted> of Astravenca for the Delta variant.

Then after that we need another dose for the Lambda variant or a Mrna shot for another variant and so on on and so forth.

Well let's be fair here. Sinovac appears to be less effective against the current developed strains. How do we know it was less or at least comparable with the original Alpha strain ?

Perhaps it's C.O.D. and can be returned.

The official results for Sinovac on the original strain have been published by the WHO it was not as effective as the others for that strain either.

The official numbers for efficacy were far lower than that of the ones being claimed by the pro Sinovac crowd on here.

In the ultimate irony, perhaps a super-killer variant comes along and ONLY Sinovac stops it.

Why on Earth do you want an untested, experimental‘vaccine’ made in the same country as the virus.... when you Already have cheap cure that works even with variants, ivermectin????

vaccines need a minimum of 5 years testing, MRNA gene therapy isn’t even a actual vaccine.

Why You Should Not Use Ivermectin to Treat or Prevent COVID-19

WHO advises that ivermectin only be used to treat COVID-19 within clinical trials

Good news that AZN vaccine is effective, but worrying that the  Chinese version doesn’t overcome the Indian variant. I receive my second AZN jab on Monday. Once the western countries have vaccinated their populations I hope that all surplus vaccines are quickly handed over to countries in need. This problem isn’t over until the World is safe.

Ivermectin is yet to be proved as effective. I’ll be interested to see the results of the Oxford University study that is taking place now. If it’s positive that’s good news but no one should be describing this as a cure.

My wife's is on Monday. I'd like her to get the AZ as well. Or any of the others that work as well.

Can't believe some people still actually think like this!

Well, a natural experiment is about to take place in Phuket, where at least 57% of the population has been vaccinated twice, mostly, I believe, with Sinovac. It will be interesting to see how it fares vs. the rest of the country.

It's very likely that we'll have to have ongoing vaccinations to fight against variants. That may be every year as it is with the flu vaccine or it may be shorter or longer.

If I were you.  I would get the Astra Zeneca now.  Then follow that with a booster of Pfizer when it becomes available.  Hopefully the Sinovac you have already taken will be like "Chicken Soup" that is given when a person has a cold.  It may not do any good but doesn't do any harm.
