Yes, Carlsberg came to Thailand once, it didn't end so well.

Meanwhile we are getting jabbed with the first three that are, as it turns out,  worth a sack of warm <deleted>.

You get what you pay for.

Whilst the mrna vaccines to show some higher antibodies in lab tests the AZ is a good vaccine.. The majority of the 80 mIllon jabs given in the UK were AZ.

It got exaggerated bad press from the EU, especially from Macron, over rare blood clots - a problem shared with Johnson and Johnson's vaccine.

So are they going to be free as part of the governments vaccination programme or are we going to be buying it for ourselves..?

Does he realize these companies will want money for their vaccines?

Possibly another buy up front scheme.

When you say 50 million more...what is "more"...you haven't got the first lot yet.

And when you say "likely to be purchased", what does that mean? Purchase or not purchase?

Surely "Mr. Anutin has assigned" would be better served by "Mr. Anutin has assumed all responsibility and will personally manage"

And when you say "to arrange meetings with representatives of the manufacturers", does that mean you haven't met them yet, or you don't have them on speed dial?

So many words that say almost nothing.

Yes.... yes and yes.

All I seem to hear is: ' on order', 'about to be ordered', 'available soon', 'coming along soon', 'in the pipeline', 'ordered and will be delivered with out delay'.  Never heard so many phrases for  'not available'.

But, for the umpteenth time, NOT purchased.  NOT here.  NOT winging its way here.  Just the usual garbage nonsense--this time we get 'expected to be purchased'.  I suppose a nice change from 'mulling',  'pondering', 'thinking about', etc., etc., etc.

Millions “Expected to be purchased”.  I’d like to think this is vindication for the hundreds of TV posters here, who have expressed their disdain and skepticism for SinoVac and the the concept of home made AZ.  For six months, the government pushed this substandard vaccine solution, thinking they had it down.  Let’s hope this is a turnabout for the good of the people of Thailand.

Dr Anan Jongkaewwattana, of the National Centre for Engineering and Biotechnology in Thailand, who has researched the impact of Sinovac, welcomed the decision to give additional jabs. A preliminary study run jointly by the centre and Thammasat University found that antibody levels among 500 Thai medics vaccinated with two doses of Sinovac fell 50% within 40 days. The researchers have not yet looked specifically at neutralising antibodies, the key parameter for protection against the virus, or at new variants. However, their findings do, like other studies, suggest the vaccine’s impact weakens over time, said Anan.        Why would you want to vaccinate yourself with this

Is it a point of honor among some not to include links to quoted material?

the problem I see here is the use of some words that lead to misunderstandings,,, LIKELY, EXPECTED TO E PURCHASED that means nothing has been done or is done or will be done

Wouldn't it be better to announce this when the 20m promised doses of Pfizer gets their contract signed and the same with the 5 mil Moderna?

50 million more doses of Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine and an unspecified amount of Moderna vaccine are likely to be purchased by Thailand, to address the continual surge in infections and deaths, according to Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul yesterday (Sunday).

Mr. Anutin has assigned Thailand’s Food and Drug Administration (TFDA) Secretary-General Paisal Dunkhum to arrange meetings with representatives of the manufacturers of the vaccines already approved by the TFDA for procurement, especially the mRNA Pfizer and Moderna vaccines.

The vaccine brands approved by the TFDA include Sinovac, Sinopharm, AstraZeneca, Moderna, Johnson & Johnson and Pfizer. Thailand is currently administering the first three.

BANGKOK (NNT) - Thailand’s government has revealed that a potential COVID-19 vaccine, derived from plant protein, or subunit vaccine, which uses the same technology as Novavax, could be ready for production in a few weeks.

Deputy government spokesperson Ratchada Thanadirek said the vaccine has been developed by Baiya Phytopharm Co Ltd, a Thai startup company. A subunit vaccine presents one or more antigens to the immune system without introducing pathogen particles, whole or otherwise.

The company will send the documentation to the Food and Drug Administration seeking an inspection of the factory, and expects to begin vaccine production in the next few weeks. It will undergo early human testing around September 2021 as planned.

The research team will officially seek about 100 volunteers in August, who are in good health, aged between 18-55 years and 65-75 years. Once the vaccine passes the process successfully, it is expected that it can be produced for use in the middle of 2022. People will receive two vaccinations, three weeks apart, and it will sell at around THB300-500 per dose.

Key words:

potential COVID-19 vaccine

could be ready for production

The usual over-optimistic meaningless drivel. I wouldn't have thought it was a slow day on Covid news, but clearly there is a need to pump this bilge out.
