BANGKOK (NNT) - An opinion survey by Suan Dusit Poll has found that a majority of people (60.93%) think the current COVID-19 situation in Thailand is extremely serious and will take at least two years to overcome.

The poll was conducted online among 1,702 people throughout the country between 5 - 15 July, as the numbers of infections and deaths were rising.

Concerning the most worrying aspects of the situation, with respondents allowed to choose more than one answer, 89.24% cited the rising numbers of infections and deaths, 81.08% said many medical personnel had contracted the virus, 77.71% cited the closure of businesses leading to unemployment, 75.75% pointed to the slow vaccination roll-out and low-quality vaccines and 73.75% said the pandemic was still out of control.

Regarding vaccination, 49.35% of respondents said they had not been inoculated, 38.84% had received the first jab and 11.81% had received two jabs.

Thanks Captain Obvious, like we can't see so many people suffering around us, or dying from COVID, depression, suicide, poverty... (Looks at a comment above).... Oh, somehow it's not obvious to everyone, sorry.

A majority of people believe the media hysteria.

that's just the beginning, expect another 6 months like this until you guys get your vaccine plan

then it will be another 6 months of debate about the speed of the vaccine rollout ????

I suggest you turn off the news at this point, it will only get worse. No need to add anxiety, because it will be far worse in 1 or 2 months

That wasn't my point, but thanks.

It is serious and only the uniformed, with a penchant for ignoring the obvious, would think otherwise.

You mean like the guy above your post?

We already know that vaccination doesn't protect against getting covid, ( my double vaccinated son is in bed with it now and feeling quite out of sorts)  its not the silver bullet its cracked up to be, more a cardboard one and judging by the UK experience right now, its not the answer to very much at all, in isolation.  The vaccination program, if ever we see one here,  will alone not save Thailand, only that, plus strict adherence to lock down and other quite draconian restrictions will do that,

Sure the PM and his supporters will come up with some super poll later in the week of their own showing support for the PM at an all time high and vociferously calling for him to stay another 20 years

Not if flights start getting blocked.  For example, some Europe has recommended(not mandated yet) that flights from Thailand be denied entry.  So, any potential tourists from there would cancel.  They would be stranded in Thailand since they can come here but not return to Europe.

No they haven't, simply a hotel based quarantine.

In a petty minded tit for tat world I would have done this the day after Thailand imposed restrictions on incoming travel and it would still be in place years later.

The EU are very small minded and protectionist and although they take their time doing anything they do like to strike back.

People think very serious. we have to plan a meeting to discuss and order more vaccines.. How about let's see October some day?? Every one has time?? we can discuss about the vaccines and later talk with the manufacturers and maybe some time 2nd half of the year we can order them..

It appears the local (amphur) government are making preparations for a worsening Covid situation. We heard the Poo Yai on the loudspeaker this morning telling us that a field hospital was being established only 3km from our home. I live in rural Phetchabun, and we have had very few Covid cases over the last 18 months.

Sorry about your son and sincerely hope he will recover but he probably got infected shortly after the second jab. Or did he get the Sinocrap ?

Astra Zeneca, in UK.  He is a very fit and active person but that seems to be no protection against getting it or having mild symptoms.  Thank you for your supportive comment.
