He will not get the vote to be PM from the bicameral chambers. Prayut’s coalition is on a shaky ground and Thammanat is not liked by the opposition   parties and his own party after he refered himself a the “monkey keeper” which incensed many. He went through a censure debate last year when opposition parties charged him ineligible to be a cabinet minister. He didn’t defend his case properly but instead tried to block admission of the Australian court records. At debate’s end, he was rebuked by many of his own party and received the least fewer votes of confidence than 5 others including Prayut. He is not liked and loathed in both houses.

If he was made PM then Thailand would become the Hub of Heroin Smugglers and growers as his Cabinet would have many in position who have helped him to make his way to the top by selling and transporting his product.

Maybe he aspires to become the Manuel Noriega of Southeast Asia.

One fact alone that such a news are circulating suggests change is coming irrespective of what Prayut thinks or wants

It is not the first time that it has been mentioned in the press.

The Thai Enquirer mentioned it in a story a few weeks back.

I would not worry about those they don't make the list.

There's also some divergence within the specific categories of harm. Alcohol and heroin both score high for crime. But alcohol's crime risk is due to its tendency to make people more aggressive (and more prone to committing crime), while heroin's crime risk is based on the massive criminal trafficking network behind it.

Agriculture and Cooperatives minister Captain Thammanat Prompao cried "fake news" after a picture of him appeared on social media saying he was ready and waiting to be the next Thai prime minister.

There’s a man with good survival instincts.

That would be an absolute belter for Thailand, a convicted drug dealer as Prime Minister !

Comedy Gold ! ????

He only smuggled drug. Small player It's! It's not enough to be qualified as PM. One needs to have smuggled more serious items, you know, such as diamonds, arms  etc...

Good point - he only made captain?

This is the Thai army with soooo many generals.

Thaksin Shinawatra was only a captain!

If he could turn the place around, I don't think he would be so much of a laughing stock.

Ah but here is the rub ;

To turn Thailand around would require extensive societal change , nobody who proposes that will be shoed in by the current mob.

Could Thamannat be the one to bring Thaksin back? Thaksin then pledges his allegiance to number 1 (and with that comes much of the nations allegiance) and everyone’s happy.

Oh my, wouldn't that be a surprise!

This is just what Thailand needs to get back on its feet and finish the excellent job being done over the past 7 years to restore happiness to the Thai people. Revenues from exports of flour would go through the roof.  State visits to Australia and other anally retentive farang countries might not be on the cards but who needs them?

The real current mob consists of a party of one.

A convicted drug dealer for PM, now that would be a turn up for the books. Maybe he should work more closely with the AFP in order to shut down the drugs pipeline between Thailand and Australia. He would be better suited as the Thai Ambassador to Mexico or Colombia. I'm sure that he would be more than capable of starting a free trade agreement with either country.

Thailand is teetering on the brink of becoming a failed state. The extend to which the economy is decimated right now, is something we may not know for years to come, as it is being hidden, as well as they possibly can hide it. All we need is a desperado felon, helming the country. Thailand is not already enough of a laughing stock, throughout the world? Just try this one. Just try it.

As it stands now, 100 years from now, they may be teaching about Prayuth and Phiphat, as the men who presided over the once great industry of tourism, the once great nation of Thailand, and the men who helped destroy the economy and industry millions depended upon. And the men who helped precipitate the demise and decline of Thailand, from the tiger of SE Asia (and at one time the 21st largest economy in the world) to a whiny, sickly, skinny, disease infested alley cat, on it's last legs. And on par with Burundi, Mauritania, Burkina Faso, Yemen, and Sierra Leone.

Imagine someone like this drug lord taking over? It boggles the mind. How low can they possibly sink? We are witnessing such moral depravity.
