Featured Replies

In visiting this office today I noticed that all officers no longer wearing "Immigration Police" T shirts or jackets but instead are now wearing "Immigration Bureau" uniforms ?? what does this name change mean ? if anything ??

It means they had money in the  budget for new shirts I'd guess

New OA Visa extension requirement...buy 3 shirts for final approval stamp....????

Immigration offices seem at times to operate individually rather than as a part of Foreign Affairs Ministry. So uniform change might be a 'local' decision.

In my visit this month to CW for O-A extension I didn't IO's foregoing the police labels.

The Royal Thai Police operate under the National Police Commissioner that is supervised by PM Prayut. They are organizationally separate from "Immigration Police."

Case in point when 3 years ago I was in CW to extend my visa, for proof of residency I had a certification from the District Police; IO rejected it saying 'Police are not Immigration.'

Another case in point as I recall was when the Red Bull heir made a brief visit to Bangkok passing through airport Immigration while on the run to escape arrest by the RTP that Immigration was questioned why they didn't detain him when there was an arrest warrant for the heir. Answer I recall was 'We are not the police."

So it seems confusing that IO's are both IO's and 'police.' Thus, I find Nonthaburi's uniform change to be more transparent and correct.

? Can you explain the relation to Foreign Affairs Ministry?

Immigration is part of the national police and in the line of command.

Warning

See the badge?

"Royal Thai Police"/"Immigration Bureau".

So all fine with the "new" uniforms.

Will have a close look next month when extension is due.

Common sense approach, and it stops people getting above there station

My wife has a small chain if shops and if the staff come to work without uniform, home they go, lets the customer see who to ask for help, and in this case it worked with the OP asking the question.

Yes you are correct.

I was trying to reconcile them not being police while being police.

1 day a week the boss can ask them to wear sports  uniform to show that they exercise on that day. It's only for the show though...

No reconciliation needed, IOs are RTP officers.
