BANGKOK (NNT) - The US Government’s representative has announced it will donate 5 million USD to Thailand and 1 million doses of vaccine, in addition to the previously donated 1.5 million doses.

The 5 million dollars donation is for COVID-19 assistance including providing support to health care workers administering vaccines, and enforcing the Thailand public health system.

The announcement was made by U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Linda Thomas-Greenfield at Med Park Hospital Vaccination Center in Bangkok on 10 August, 2021

The 5 million dollar donation represents part of 55 million USD aid which will be donated to international partners and NGOs to "provide emergency food assistance, lifesaving protection, shelter, essential health care, water, sanitation, and hygiene services to vulnerable people from Myanmar, including more than 700,000 refugees and internally displaced people." in border areas

Apart from the 5 million dollar donation, America previously delivered 1.5 million doses of Pfizer vaccine to Thailand, the first doses of which were distributed on 3 August, 2021, according to Department of Disease Control.

The donation is a part of US President Joe Biden’s commitment to provide COVID-19 vaccines to countries which are in need.

In addition to the US, Thailand has received donated vaccines from England, Japan, China, and tests and medical equipment from the Swiss government in the past.

5 million in cash is lunacy... do you not understand who you're dealing with?

Biden, you got millions in the state who refuse to take the vaccine.  While you a us Americans over here in Thailand who would love to get the shot and raise your numbers.   Think about it.

I hope they check where the money/vaccines go to

So the worst we look the more donations of vaccines and money come rolling in. Is this good for us and Thai people?

Hey.  5 million is nothing when you are printing trillions.

By the time the 5 million get here it won't be worth much as the Dems. are on a roll.

do not donate cash to these organizations, give food, clothing, toys and such things that will go to the kids

I do that here at home with the fam. Physical, useful items for the house and farm, water and electric bills, never straight cash.

Who knows where the cash will go. Booze, gambling, debts. Perhaps other folks with their hands out. Sorry, can't take care of the whole village.

The wife I trust quite a bit, a 1000 baht goes to meat, gas, natural gas, hair and nails, which I can account for. But it's further out in the fam that I wouldn't.

Don't worry, the $5 mil is a solid investment.

You see, America's got this big automotive company here... Wait, no we don't anymore.

But, the Thai govt cares so much about the American expats... Wait, not really.

Well, we need Asian allies seeing as how China wants to take over... Except the Thais are in bed with them.

I dunno man.

Why?

Thailand is supposed to have shed loads of foreign currency reserves. It has domestic vaccine production facilities. Why all these donations? It is certainly not altruism.

I help out a Family sometimes that consists of an Old Man and Old Lady ( Both about 80 i am guessing ), and 3 Young Kids between 5 and 9.

The kids are their grandchildren I assume, and they, as many others have to do , look after the Kids while Ma and Pa work, but I have never seen them..

These folk live in a Tin Shack in the Jungle down the road from me. They have no running Water, Electric, or any other mod con we would consider to be essential.

The Old Folk make some Charcoal and grow Bananas and Bamboo to sell, and they really are Dirt Poor.

I never give them any Money, always some Eggs, Rice, Face Masks, Candy and Milky drinks for the kids , and occasionally some Pork to cook.

They are so eternally grateful for what little help I can give to them, but I would never give them Money, and neither would they expect it, or have asked for it.

Thailand is the Gateway to the South China Sea, and now that the Chinese have Naval Military Facilities in Cambodia, it has become all important Geographically.

 For my 2 Cents worth.

The 5 million could buy another 200-250k vaccines,

But it is earmarked as some balance to the Chinese bribes...I am sure the US knows very well where most of it will go.

First Australia back in Feb donated $68 million for Covid-19 relief.

Now US donates $5 million ...

Both with NO accountability ... very sad!

I am very certain that foreign governments are very aware of the potential for misappropriation of donated funds. It may appear to be lunacy to donate money like this.  There's more to it.

The true purpose is very likely to try to maintain diplomacy with Thailand.

China is the real reason.  China has been and is still pushing hard for its South East Asian neighbours to take up allegiance with the CCP and turn against the West.

Thailand also does not want China to lose face (as we know what the potential outcomes can be), hence probably why it has gone so hard in ordering so much of the inferior Sinovac vaccine.

Just to annoy the new Chinese Ambassador

Why... it likely will get spent buying some more Sinovac and he might help with negotiations.
