Prominent Thai doctor says everyone will eventually catch Covid-19, we need to learn to live with it

Prominent Thai doctor, Manoon Leechawengwongs, urged non-infected people to stop discriminating against Covid-19 Coronavirus cured patients as he believes everyone would eventually be infected, sooner or later.

 

The doctor from Vichaiyut Hospital stated online today, August 19th, that Thailand has an increasing number of covid patients every day. But the other thing that is happening now is that many cured coronavirus patients who strictly conducted self-treatment and self-quarantine at home until 3-4 weeks have passed are also shunned by society.

 

His status read: “Their boss doesn’t let them go back to work. Local shopkeepers refused to provide service to them. Society treated them like they used to treat people with HIV and tuberculosis. They are stigmatized and discriminated against.”

This sort of thing is probably going on only in the mind of this doctor, to get some attention. I know a lot of Covid recovered persons, none of them faced any discrimination.

Fewer than will die from malnutrition and early deaths from chronic diseases resulting from malnutrition, especially kids of young age. Of course, this isn't the first time such an explanation has been trotted out.. Before Delta hit Thailand, lots of denialists were claiming that Thais were mostly immune to covid and the measures taken to restrict it were unnecessary.

Even with the virus conquered or at least left cowering in a corner, the whole world has changed as a result of the pandemic and it won't be going back to 2019: supply chains, expectations of governments, health consciousness, education methods, international relations, economic structures, digital economy and on & on ... Yes, there are many examples of hatred against covid infected, but even also against medics, who were treating covid patients (as suspected virus carriers). In some countries medic's private cars were spray painted, vandalised. Same with flat entrance doors. Refusal to be served at shops

whats the deaths count from Covid now, 8,500  in 20 months ?

numbers so small compared to other ways people die in Thailand

If not for the media hype, lockdowns, etc, how many would even know or care with such small numbers

If not for the lockdowns, the death toll would be much higher.

 

Your post illustrates a common fallacy here: if lockdowns work to reduce deaths, then some people claim lockdowns aren’t needed, since so few people died.

 

You could also argue that vaccines aren’t needed in Chile, because there are only 800 new infections today.

yup, loads of them need ICUs dont they, or is the ward only for Covid patients now

Seemed to be plenty of patients with illnesses other than covid, when we took grandma in ,dont think there was even one covid patient there 

Lots of road injuries, cancers, influenza, , have them by the thousands, but covid ? 

Heard a few weeks ago someone came back from Bangkok to near our village and was infected, but not hospitalized, other than that none known around here

Still doesnt stop people sh""tting themselves though, even when they know they have more chence of dying going to the shops

Thanks, you could also argue vaccines are not required in Samoa, Tonga, niether of which has anything to do with Thaialnd, just like Chile

Tamil Nadu announced they would reject Ivermectin and instead follow the dubious USA-style guidance of using Remdesivir. Knowing this, you might expect their numbers to be closer to the US, with more cases and more deaths. You would be correct. Tamil Nadu went on to lead India in COVID-19 cases.

This is the same guy who spoke out recently against lock downs. (see lockdown measures aren't working ) I agreed with him then and I agree with him now.

 

We have to stop cowering away from a pathogen that, for the vast majority of people, only causes a minor, short term illness and in many cases, no illness at all.

 

Vaccinate and protect the vulnerable and the frontline workers, then let the virus have its way and put an end to this crazy situation. The sooner we do that, the sooner herd immunity will be achieved and we will all be much safer and very much relieved. 

 

The stress and strain that all this nonsense is causing on society is far worse than sickness itself.

Now that this virus has established itself on a global pandemic scale and has also mutated into various more potent forms in similar manner to influenza then the reasonable expectation is that it will exist as  yet another endemic issue on a scale also similar to other less topical disease scourges that remain largely ignored.

So yes it is very likely we will have to learn to live with it > After the hysteria of the impact .

If nothing else this declared pandemic has illustrated the gross inadequacy of supposed humanitarian concerns in greater interest in profitability and nationalistic advantage and manipulation.

The government and health care organizations have purposefully stoked "the fear or Covid-19" to "11" on the Spinal Tap volume knob.  What should they expect?  A rational public.  They've told the public globally since March 2020 to cower in fear.  So now the majority - irrationally - cower in fear.

Look at the UK, probably now one of the most open countries in the world, a mixture of a good vaccine roll out and herd immunity. They are saying 85% of the population now has anti-bodies. Only restriction is on overseas travel, you don't even have to isolate if in contact 

 

Almost a month now open and deaths and hospital admissions are low.

 

Went to London for a few days, life is normal, they are asking you to wear a mask on the tube, that's about it.
