PHUKET: More than 12,000 people across Phuket have been tested by antigen test kits (ATKs) since Aug 1, leading to more than 500 COVID infections being confirmed, Phuket Public Health Office (PPHO) Chief Dr Kusak Kukiattikoon has confirmed.

Dr Kusak revealed the figures this morning during a live broadcast from Provincial Hall, joined by Phuket Vice Governor Piyapong Choowong and Public Relations Department Phuket office (PR Phuket) Chief Bussaya Chaipeum.

The figures were given in response to a deluge of queries as to the high number of cases being confirmed in Phuket in recent weeks, with a record number of local infections confirmed yesterday (Aug 19).

been saying for weeks that covid is rampant in Phuket - sandbox tourists going out and about and mixing with locals - then testing positive because they are the only people tested on the Island  and their holiday ruined

Looking at the number of positive tests for sandboxers it really isn't a big issue.

It's a big deal for the few who do get infected, but no worse than they'd be if they tested positive in Spain, Mexico, or anywhere else they could travel where they mingle with locals then have to present a negative test to get on the airplane home.

in New Zealand they have about 20 and the lock down the country

This will continue there and Oz ( and elswhere ) where they've completely locked the doors and shut off the world, their population will have built up zero immunity to Covid, therefore when it starts........look out - vaccinated or not!

Aren't they supposed to shut the project after 90? no?... sorry

No. The 90 was a reference from the time there were no local infections, and referred to infections brought in by sandboxers.

Mind Boggling numbers of testing in Phuket.

600 per Day for 20 Days on a population of over 400,000 +

Again, you have to look at the timeline. When the sandbox was conceived there were no local infections at all. Now the infections are not from sandboxers, so why should it be cancelled?

You seem unclear on the concept of immunity. Vaccination provides immunity.

Well 600 per day, while too small a number of tests IMHO, it's an improvement over about 100/day in June and about 200/day in July.

I too would like to see more testing as I believe it would help the government by giving them better information to support their decision making.

I fear thou their budget could limit their quantity of future testing.

Deflection mate, the 90 infections in one week was never just for the sandbox tourists, why lie? Show the link to state it, you can't because there are none.

Again, look at the timeline in stead of just following other thoughtless posts.
