Popular Post SeaMike01
This would be a huge relief. I came from Washington State in the USA, which is a major wine producer, and the selection at our supermarkets was huge and very affordable. I was shocked to come to Thailand and see some of our 'worst' and cheapest wines at 3 to 4 times the price. Hopefully the markets and shops will lower prices accordingly.

Popular Post vincent13
I note that they're talking about import duties. The main factor affecting wine prices is the huge excise tax wacked on once it has landed in Thailand. I suspect a 50% reduction in import duty will not not lead to a huge reduction in the price of wine.

He left Botany Bay as Cook arrived, they saw each other! As a Scot and traditional ally of the French, I can't deny it would probably be a much better place now for it. The dull British meat and two veg convict drink till ya puke culture has only been enlivened by the Southern Europeans, Vietnamese, cantonese, etc that followed -much too late to make a real difference. Now they're led by a flag hugging berk from a happy clappy fringe cult.

geisha
I had friends who arrived in their yacht to Phuket. There were 7 crew. They asked where the best restaurants were and I gave them a few addresses. They went, and took their own wine with them and paid the corkage. Much safer they said, nothing to do with money. Not every restaurant has a wine cellar, and I’ve heard that they are often stored before delivery in the heat , and transport conditions are crucial wine.
Sydebolle
So the bootlegging from Malaysia, Cambodia and Laos is being felt finally? The tax coffers of Thailand lost zillions of Baht based on its shortsightedness on the subject. Smuggled booze in any form and packaging was offered to us before we sold our restaurant four years ago. Tempted many times but never went for it to avoid a showdown of smugglers in police uniform!

Boomer6969
Is this such a big deal for the average Farang wine drinker? I spend about 12k a month of wine, so what they "quack quack" about would result in a saving of about 2k to 3 k. Worth mentioning? No
