There are currently 54 countries on the red list

By Neil Lancefield & Lottie Gibbons

The UK's red travel list is expected to be updated in a Government announcement on Thursday.

This would open up travel between the UK and dozens of long-haul destinations.

There are currently 54 countries on the red list, such as Mexico, Cuba, all of mainland South America, and southern and eastern Africa.

Anyone arriving in the UK from a location in the red tier must spend 11 nights in a quarantine hotel.

That's the dream for Thailand.

It almost certainly won't happen due to the presence of a certain Beta (South Africa) variant in Thailand - that's what I heard.

I will be very surprised if Thailand is not one of the very short list of countries which remains on the list.

1 - Due to the variant

and

2 - Due to their choice of vaccines

That said, I like surprises yet I'm rarely surprised.

3. Due to lack of testing and testing numbers believability !

From another article today

"The removal from the red list of Mexico, South Africa and Thailand would send "a confidence boost across the sector and across consumers.

Mr Charles said it is "very hard to justify" why any countries are on the list "when there are no new variants of concern there".

Delta is no longer a variant of concern?

That was for countries previously on the amber list, which has now been scrapped.

From the BBC article:

"The government is also expected to announce on Thursday changes to the red list. There are currently 54 destinations on the list, including Mexico, Cuba, all of mainland South America, and southern and eastern Africa."

So its not dead in the water yet, still 24 hours to go. He says living in ill concealed hope.

What about getting back to Thailand?

Completely irrelevant if its red or green until they recognize the AZ jab taken here.

How will it open up to the UK when SINOPHARM IS NOT ON THE LIST OF APPROVED VACCINES ?

These types of meetings usually rubber stamp previously prepared submissions. They don’t decide everything there and then.

You sound lovely.

Strange politics IMO. Malaysia is now off the UK' travel warning list despite still not faring too well.

Malaysia has , among other vaccines, also used Sinovac and is planning to use it for school children now.

The Delta variant is also there.

How can you trust Thailand if they manipulate all numbers.. as testing, recoveries, vaccinated etc. ??? It blame is with the Governement.

If you are needing to travel back "not red" would mean you can just do 5 days isolation at a place of your choosing with test and release instead of 10 days locked in the gulag.

I did some digging when it went red into two subjects 1) AZ acceptance and 2) red list. What I stumbled on was the red list has a scientific committee doing assessments and they concluded that Thailand was not undertaking/sharing enough reliable covid data for a positive assessment to be made.
