Back in March 2020 I realised SARS-CoV-2 was going to last a while and I walked away from my guesthouse in Sth. Pattaya.

I allowed the manager to use my Honda Click for the last 18 months.

Last week, she told me it had been stolen and to send 2,500 baht to recover it from Bangkok.

I smelt a rat and told her I would recover it.....(my wife's brother lives in BKK)

She then says she owns the bike and will take it!  She says she has changed the paperwork.

How do I report this as a theft?  I am stuck in UK.  I still have the green book (ownership book)

Is the Tourist Police an option?

Sad to hear, but not surprised.  Temptation is hard to resist.  Nice gesture on your part.  I definitely would file a police report, to get the incident on record.  Bring all your documentation.  Send a letter authorizing your wife's brother to act as your proxy or representative if that is even possible.  Any text messages between you and your ex landlord that assert what you claim she said and did would be helpful

Of course probably some fine print in some Thai law, that "possesion is 9 tenths of ownershp", you "abandoned the bike, she by default was the new owner, etc.  Doubt it, but hard to fight. She might even claim that you said she could keep the bike. Tough to fight.  Get a copy of the papers she now claims to have and how she "changed" ownership, show payment reciept, transfer, your signature, etc.  she would lose but it will be a struggle for you

Some of the things she said in messenger make sense now. She was baiting me to say I don't want the bike anymore....Thankfully I did not bite.

I have many text messages condemning her fate which I can show the police if I ever get back to LOS

When you closed it did you pay her any compensation?

Report it stolen. It is possible to get hold of green book tho,if she has done that, she may have done, but it will show up as stolen at taxation time

No.  She stole money from the guesthouse so that is a contributing reason for closing it.

The last conversation I had with her was she was going back to Udon Thani so I am guessing the bike is sold or she will take it to Udon.  If only ridden in the back of beyond I doubt it will get taxed................therefore never show up as stolen.

If you're unsure if you're coming back, and if you had a business with staff that's now closed, then I don't see the (financial) point in turning over every stone just too get back a secondhand (and now unloved) Honda Click. Some things just need to be left.

I understand it's the principle, and that she stole money, but 'the principle' doesn't work in law, and can you PROVE she stole money? If not, you could be making things worse for yourself in the long run.

Unless a newer model and a tidy bike, it's probably not worth more than 10-15k. That's less than the flight to come and fight for it.

ok so when you file your complaint at the police station include that also, it may need to wait until you return

Sent the green book and copy of passport and a copy page of the passport with the Thailand exit stamp to your B.I.L. get him to report it to police and collect the bike for you.

I guess she is playing you because your in UK and thinks you do not know anyone that can help you.

I think you are correct. She realises I'm stuck here and listens to her street friends.

Very sad how it has gone ????

If me I would just forget about it and get on with life…

From my experience you only get into more trouble every time you try to do the right thing here. They always find a way.

When you come back to Thailand buy a new bike and forget the old one as someone said 20,000b bike and you want to make a big deal about it. And the new scam replacing the bufflo is sick is fertilizer for the rice crop.

She steals your bike and tells you it is her bike now and she wants you to pay to get it back for her. TIT.

I do not know where you get the old bike from.

It's 2 years old and it's my bike.

On principle I want it back.

Aren't you the same ThaIrish who runs a youtube channel?

No, but I'm sure to check it out now

My thought if this happened to me - is the bike worth the agro and expense I will have to go thru to reclaim it ?

Is the F'ing you take worth the F'ing you get ?

As your post above states you wish to do so on principal - which I understand.

I wish you the best of luck with the recovery.

Probably would have been better to have left the bike with your brother-in-law before leaving Thailand.
