Thailand on Wednesday (October 20) reported 8,918 new COVID-19 cases, 10,878 recoveries and 79 additional deaths over the past 24 hours.

▶︎ Total infections since April 1: 1,782,989

▶︎ Total recoveries since since April 1: 1,662,433

Wednesday’s cases bring the total number of COVID-19 infections in Thailand to 1,811,852 with 18,486 deaths.

The news comes as about 50 nurses and other medical personnel working at the Udon Thani provincial hospital have protested to the management over its alleged failure to pay them hazard allowances for having to work long hours during the COVID-19 pandemic since last year.

The frontline medics staged a protest in the grounds of the hospital Tuesday before moving to the provincial hall, to submit a petition to Governor Sayam Sirimongkol. The petition letter was received by the provincial health chief, Dr. Paramet Kingko.

Back on the beach in Thailand's model 'sandbox'

Ring-fencing of resort island shows possible way forward for tourism

With some 20% of its economy based on tourism, you would expect Thailand's marketing gurus to dream up innovative slogans. They have given us such enduring catch lines as "Amazing Thailand" and "Smooth as Silk" for Thai Airways International. The latest is "Phuket Sandbox" as a pillar for the country's post-COVID-19 tourism recovery program. Thais love a good pun -- and "Sandbox" isn't bad. It evokes both the beach resort's key attraction and the experimental ring-fencing of Phuket Island from the rest of Thailand.

We have achieved flat line status it would appear. The ATK cases should be included in my view since they accept them as proof of being negative for traveling.

Yes... I would like to see a chart of numbers free of Covid too!

Of course they should, its ridiculous they are not included, actually the GPO is selling them online also now:

From today until 20th October, the Government Pharmaceutical Organization will sell Antigen Test Kits (ATK) online through the website http://gpoplanet.com. The ATK’s are priced at 800 baht per box, which is 40 baht per kit. The online shop opens at 8am. #Thailand

Accepting ATK tests into the overall numbers of Infections would send the numbers in the wrong direction.

The fall in reported Infections seem to be declining more rapidly over the last few days.

I wonder if that observation has been swayed in any way by the opening on  1 st Nov, and the dire need to make the Country look like a sterile Environment for the tourists.

When you only test a few pecent then as always you will achieve lower numbers, case solved.

The Department of Disease Control said it delivered 4.5 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine made by Pfizer for inoculation with students. The amount is enough for the administration of the first vaccine dose for students before the next school term begins on Nov 1.

Does anyone else find it absolutely remarkable that the tested rate has remained at a constant 14.68% for days now?

Also amazing that the more they relax measures, the lower the positive numbers get.

With such figures reported and so many different agencies, provincial authorities etc involved in the vaccine rollout, I doubt they will never have a clear idea of true numbers by area, only total number of vaccines bought and distributed. The drawbacks of regional control and too many departments rather than one centralised vaccination system.

Transporting dead Covid-19 patients a tough task as Nakhon Ratchasima hospital flooded

Rescuers are finding it hard transporting dead Covid-19 patients from a flooded Maharat Nakhon Ratchasima Hospital.

The flood situation in Thailand has eased, but not in Nakhon Ratchasima province.

Water level posed a fresh obstacle to local rescue staff, who have reportedly had the daily task of carrying dead patients from the hospital to temples nearby for funerals. Maharat Nakhon Ratchasima Hospital has now temporarily reduced the number of patients it can receive in a day.
