KANCHANABURI, Oct 26 (TNA) – About 400 illegal Myanmar migrants were arrested over the past two days amid the influx of migrants from the neighboring county.

At 5.30pm on Oct 25, officials rounded up 71 illegal Myanmar migrants in Sai Yok district. They said they were waiting for traffickers who would bring them to work in Samut Sakhon, Bangkok, Nakhon Pathom, Saraburi, Chon Buri and Kanchanaburi provinces. They were required to pay 17,000-20,000 baht each to traffickers when they arrive at their destinations.

They were charged with illegal immigration and violation to the disease control measures of Kanchanaburi’s communicable disease committee.

There are a lot more in Maesot ! Maybe get on the Immigration ass to stop them , and stop assisting, and stop making it okay to live here if they pay the police protection every month and daily if they work. oh... wait that puts a dent in the police pockets, how will they afford their shiny new cars and beautiful houses they build in my dirty village.  you should see the house one regular policeman is building right now down the street from me , he says it will be about 4 mil.

So are these 400 now going to be thrown into a AQ hotel, pcr'd  and forced to pay for the expense before release ? or does that just apply to tourists  ?

The migrants were probably concerned about getting murdered by their government.

Expensive hotels just for tourists  me thinks these poor Burmese will be incarnated in little more than a cattle shed for 2 weeks then sent packing across the border ...but perhaps/hopefully they will just be sent packing immediately ?

Thai traffickers in the thick of it and Thai employers willing to give them work.

It's a two-way street, if they can't get work they wouldn't come.

Time to hit both ends not just penalise the migrants.

How about rounding up the corrupt officials who let the in and sticking them in jail.

And its a fact that these Illegal Migrants seeking work, have increased significantly from just after the announcement to open the Country up on 1 st November.

The Thai employers must be expecting a real surge, and require Staff to cope with the upsurge.

Its the Thai version of an Employment Agency, with Zero Hour Contracts.

Oh dear. Who will finish all those condo building under construction with no health and safety measures in place?

Maybe if they have confirmed employment and are met at the border with a Thai agent then why cant immigration give them temporary papers for 30 days to come in legally.

Then the employer has 30 days to finish all the documents properly at the provincial IO.

Any illegals are sent back home.

I agree with these sentiments 100 %

However, the Thai Employers have shown themselves time and again to not care about the Migrants that are working for them.

They are a throw away commodity within the Business, so why give them some kind of Contract, that will involve time and expense.

Contracts make everything traceable, - including Taxes Etc, Employment laws have to be adhered too Etc Etc.

Many of the Thai Business People, are not that at all, They are just out to make Money, and dont give a toss how they do it

With the new "day trip" for the border countries - no problem then.

How many of those traffickers wear a uniform?

you can come and pay 6000baht  for your SHA+ and test like any other tourist we don't want

Thailand is open lol

Find out who they paid to smuggle them into the country, then follow the money up the chain. You’d be surprised how far up this goes.

A reasonable percentage I would assume, especially as Prawit seems to be aware of officials in the mix.

At certain border crossings lets say West & North west there seems to be a well beaten track and where wheels are greased to allow migrant labour in, without the usual border process.

I agree with you entirely.

I think there is a network that allows illegals in across the border and into chosen professions.

Border officials taking a payment to look the other way, employers who give illegals work and pay officials to not inspect companies.

It's endemic.

Meanwhile in my moo ban, the young men lay about playing mobile games, race motorbikes up and down the road, then eventually turn to ya ba.

Oh, why won't the Thai employers give their fellow countrymen, the very future of their country, some good honest work? Come on, just hand them some tools and sticky rice! They're ready to go!

Good question, now let's see if we get an answer.

Brown envelopes are what makes this country tick. So much ‘unusual wealth’, it’s just ridiculous. But about 70% of the population doesn’t have any problems with it. As long as they can profit from the system as well, that is.
