Thailand Pass or Certificate of Entry: Clearing confusion for travelers

When Thailand opened its doors to vaccinated travelers from 63 nations this month, it also launched a new system for them to gain entry.

From November 1, tourists flying into Thailand are required to carry a Thailand Pass instead of a Certificate of Entry (COE). And as of November 4, more than 65,000 people had applied for the pass and 12,607 had been approved.

What is Thailand Pass?

This document is required for both Thai nationals and foreigners who are flying into Thailand, regardless of the scheme they are traveling under. At present, people can land in the country under three schemes – Test & Go (Quarantine-Free Entry), Sandbox (Relaxed Quarantine Rules for the fully vaccinated), or the Alternative Quarantine System.

Whatever the name, COE, PASS, anything they come up with is guaranteed a pain in te @ss. What happens if you are tested positive (real or wrong): a financial burdon. The most easy and logic way is to put the responsability on the carriers shoulder at check in. And eventually a quick test on arrival. But yeah TIT and you know you will be f*cked in anyway you could imagine ending, if you pass allthese hurdels in a restaurant drinking a fanta.

Good luck but without me

The linked Thaipbsworld article is dated 10 November and contains this gem;

"COE applicants at the pre-approval stage must submit the remaining documents by November 7 to get an approved COE that can be used in place of Thailand Pass."

Nice to see the clarification is up-to-date!

Air passengers who need to change flights in Thailand are not required to hold a Thailand Pass. However, they are required to produce a negative RT-PCR test result taken no more than 72 hours ago and insurance coverage of at least $50,000.

Are they joking?

Thailand being the regional hub for flights to Laos and Cambodia, this does not bode well...

Utterly false.

The author needs to take two minutes to check the website of the nearest Thai embassy or consulate, where he’ll find the message, written in plain English, “COE approved prior to 1 November still valid for entry.”

The purpose of COE or Thailand pass is to make money from tourists. There is no hassle when you arrive in the US.

I have heard some places like national parks are requiring a PCR test no older than 72 hours to visit the park, <deleted> after jumping through all the hoops to get to Thailand do I have to get tested again, gain and again, next thing each region will want their own additional PCR tests ! Not my idea of a holiday

Looking at the chart in the U.S. there are 50 States it looks like the average is around 60%.  Based on Thailand the way the government leaders seem to think and work it is hard to believe that they aren't benefiting from the required insurance or Hotels that are now government certified quarantine places?

Yes this seems to be the case.

The reason why Thai people want to be employed as government workers is because of the countless opportunities to generate additional income from just about everything they do. It is quite likely that someone is getting that little bit extra when approving an hotel for ASQ or whatever.

My Thai neighbor is a Van owner and driver for a school since the closure it has been covered and he is selling food but last week I saw him cleaning the Van, in a short conversation with the wife I said so and so is going back to Van school opening she said no that he got a short gig at the airport to shuttle passengers to their one day quarantine hotel in BKK but he had to grease for the privilege?

Really, interesting how you have deliberately ignored that there's a global fast spreading deadly virus surrounding everyone. But of course there are folks who believe it's all fake. In the USA 780,000 deaths from the virus or perhaps you believe that's fake news too.
