Popular Post DonniePeverley
Can't argue the vast majority who are not wearing masks are self entitled foreigners - usually caucasian. You are guests in this country, so it's more prudent you behave. Take your scientific theories and go back home if you don't like the rules, because all you are doing is giving the rest of us foreigners a bad name. 6 4

The law regarding mask wearing should be made very clear on the website where you apply for your visa or 'entry pass' / whatever they're calling it this week, make it a checkbox that they acknowledge they know it's the law, that it is enforced and that there are large fines. This is what happens when tourists copy locals, who don’t wear masks or helmets or use crosswalks or or or. The Thai public of course copy their local officials who don’t wear masks or helmets or obey traffic rules etc. etc. etc.

atpeace
Does anyone know where I can locate information on wearing masks while exercising outdoors? I think I am OK but not sure and I do get some that think it is the same as not wearing a mask at Lotus. Really no understanding of risks and how this virus spreads. I am in rural Thailand and practically everybody are wearing masks other than while at home. I think it is excessive but might be wrong. I hear others stating Thias are not wearing masks and I find this hard to believe. 90% of people on rural roads are wearing masks here! Farmers on tractors that are alone are wearing a mask probably half the time. Just weird but nothing I can do and hope they aren't too upset with me running without a mask. I certainly do not need this mask in remote areas but I wear the mask. Why? Because of the dirty looks I get when as a farang I do not have a mask on. It is easier to just wear one. You know, all farangs have COVID. That is what the locals asked me a few days ago at the market. Do you have COVID? Perhaps there is a lack of education and understanding. One look at the PISA educational tables will confirm the lack of education. Not the sharpest tools in the shed..

Popular Post Headgame
Opinions over this issue are surely varied. Living in Patong, almost all Thais seem to be wearing masks. Most foreigners seem to be wearing masks but with a noticeable number failing to do so. That to me is irritating. Wear a freaking mask - is that so difficult? Fines, well no, but stern warnings is the appropriate sanction. Was at the beach on Sunday but took off my mask while on my lounger that was well separated from other loungers. Had to go to the toilet and forgot to put on my mask. The public toilet guardian gave me a free mask to wear. I thought that was very cool and handing out free masks should also be another option along with stern warnings. Thailand is a long way from beating back the covid and we must stay vigilant and continue to do the basics. 3 1

The Thai Department of Health advises against wearing a face mask when exercising. You are not getting enough oxygen into your lungs and heart, so your body has to work harder, which is more dangerous. When I'm close to people I put my mask on. Where is this stated? I'm sick of this strange logic that people alone running need a mask. It is possible( very hard IMO) for cyclists but near impossible for runners. Some people going by me on scooters are seriously scared!

Surgical masks reduce COVID-19 spread, large-scale study shows A large, randomized trial led by researchers at Stanford Medicine and Yale University has found that wearing a surgical face mask over the mouth and nose is an effective way to reduce the occurrence of COVID-19 in community settings. It also showed that relatively low-cost, targeted interventions to promote mask-wearing can significantly increase the use of face coverings in rural, low-income countries. Based on the results, the interventional model is being scaled up to reach tens of millions of people in Southeast Asia and Latin America over the next few months. https://med.stanford.edu/news/all-news/2021/09/surgical-masks-covid-19.html I rarely see anyone wearing a i-95 surgical mask which are the only masks that are supposed to work.

Popular Post jing jing
Sometimes it's embarrassing, really, being a white foreigner here. At every Tesco Lotus, busy shop or market in the Pattaya area last month, I would estimate about 10% of foreigners were strutting about with their masks below their noses, as if they haven't a clue how it works. Maybe 1% of Thais are equally ignorant, but we are supposed to be more "civilized" than the natives... aren't we? 2 3
Moti24
The wearing of masks seems only to be policed (Pun) in Bangkok and the other tourist areas. Yet, only a few kms outside these areas, it's quite obvious that the usual percentage of Thais think laws don't really apply to them. I suspect that the real risk to covid spreading is in these outlying areas. If this mask rule is going to work, perhaps it would be a good idea to include everybody. You are looking at this far too clinically. Nothing is 100%. Do masks reduce the spread of the virus - the answer is yes. So it's all about taking basic measures that somewhat reduce the risk. I know alot of guys from the US and UK love sprouting the theory that being outdoors is safe. In most scenarios yes - but if you are in a packed place, which you will encouter in Bangkok, the last thing you want is someone without a mask coughing all over you. If you do struggle with the rules then you should honestly go elsewhere. 1 3

Popular Post JonnyF
They really need to make it crystal clear to people when booking holidays in Thailand that masks are absolutely mandatory, bars/entertainment venues are shut, alcohol is only served in restaurants in a few cities until 9pm etc. If they know all that and are still stupid enough to come here for a holiday, they can't complain.
