Absolutly useless.

If the government really interested in make some changes,

then they should follow the German or Swiss model.

What do you think, why they have only few traffic fatalities?

Because in Germany and Switzerland they have a strict traffic

law enforcement.

Very easy to get the driving license suspended.

In Thailand... just 200 or 500 Baht tea money.

It's also strict in the UK.

And if you want to see what seriously harsh penalties are for drink driving, Norway is the place.

  • In a normal country that would be an automatic ban and loss of licence, but T.I.T. !

  • It just shows the powers that be ,are not serious about improving drivers habits and cutting the carnage that is happening everyday on Thai roads, you can have 3 DUI's and still don't loose

  • And if they don't have a licence in the first place?

30 pts: driving on an expired, suspended or confiscated licence.

What logic. If you don't have a driving license or have been withdrawn, you can continue to collect points as if you still had a driving license. 555

Apparently you can also overdraw your account like at a bank.

After removing 100 points you have a warning, after 100 warning, you have a blame, after 100.blames ..... Still 35,000 deaths on the roads.

30 points for suspended or confiscated licence,?!?! eh, how does that work? lose another 70 points and we will take away your license that we have already taken away

So little for the amount that are killed and injured a year but so much for a flu .   Good job the vips can’t catch a dangerous  driver in their motorcade else every Thai would be back on the buffaloes

that is not a deterrent for anyone ,

We had a taxi driver once proudly tell us he never had a license as he did not need one as good driver!

Awesome, now I can have a drink with the taxi driver while we're waiting in traffic.

Its enforced by the DLT, nothing to do with the police.

Does the DLT have law enforcement officers patrolling the roads

Was a waist of time reading it all.. but did it say how many points for not having a licence? Doh..... it don't matter then ....cant add or takeaway  what you don't have in the first place..

Then they are Lucky they can't suspended /take it away.

Ah well, just another day in Thailand.

"Fare" dinkum.

What a joke! This is just another way for MIB to top up their income! There's absolutely no real deterrent.

It would perhaps prove more effective if the owners of companies and taxis were liable for heavy fines if their drivers committed any road traffic acts.

Immediate 12 months ban for 1st offence of no driving licence or insurance.

5 year ban for 2nd offence, if caught driving whilst banned a cheeky little 6 months in monkey House and 10,000 fine.

Are they trying to copy CCP’s social credit points system?

It sounds like the future is already here.

It sounds like the future is already here.

Let's face it.  If by some miracle the RTP were able to instantly start policing the roads as they currently do in  the West, Thailand's logistics economy would grind to a halt before breakfast on day one.

But they want to be "seen to be trying" to make things better, not actually make things better - anybody whose been here for more than 30 minutes knows that everything is a charade and for the sake of the show.

And sometimes it's difficult to tell if the show is meant to be a comedy or a tragedy.

Not so bad now they are a little busier, but before, the taxi drivers on our soi, were wasted for a good part of the day.

Comical in its design, intent and carry-through.

Maybe SOME people drive drunk permanently due to stress working in government offices, so lets be lenient aaaaa!

Another system in place?  they aren't around now to enforce the first system plus I seriously doubt they can figure out who is who they aren't carrying any type of device to see how many points a driver might have what are they going to do write down their names and go back to the office and look in the written log book. How out touch are these people DLT the reason they should just scrape all these freeloaders!???? what a bunch of Ting Dong!

20 pts:  taking intoxicating substances while driving.

30 pts: driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Where is the difference?

1. Actually consuming intoxicating substances while in control of the vehicle.

2. Having consumed intoxicating substances before taking control of the vehicle.

Just a guess....

So you could rig the meter and be p'd as a fart and only lose half your points. Wow, driving a public vehicle (taxi or private hire) under the influence was grounds for immediate withdrawal of licence where I was driving in the UK. Depending upon how far over the limit you were would determine whether your licence disappeared for 1 year, 5 years or ever.

get drunk and drive 3 times, easy take free classes get points back drive drunk again ???????????????????????????

they are called the B I B !!!! if you see them......

the other day I saw 4 cops all on motor bikes NONE wearing a crash helmet !!!!!

This was beach road Jomtien

I hope that some of the western media outlets get wind of these absurd penalties for taxi drivers in Thailand. Only in Thailand (cuckoo land) could the "powers that be" sanction convicted taxi drivers with up to (3) DUI convictions, to ferry tourists around... Mai Pen Rai...

Are they in a position to enforce it though?

My SIL hasn't had a license in 6 years. Last one got revoked.

In the real world drunk taxi drivers loose their license and spend time in jail and pay big fine + communal service. Here they just get a 20 points reduction from their 100 points.???????? How many sub-panels and comities came up with this?
