Two more Omicron cases detected in Thailand

Thailand’s Centre for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) announced Wednesday that a second and third case of COVID-19 Omicron infection have been detected in Thailand in two unvaccinated Thai women, who returned to the country from Nigeria on November 24th.

Both entered quarantine upon arrival and tested positive for COVID-19, just two days before the World Health Organisation formally announced the emergence of Omicron. Their infections came ahead of Thailand’s first known case of the Omicron variant, a 35-year-old American businessman arriving from Spain and then Dubai on November 29th , as announced by the CCSA on Monday.

Both received treatment in a “hospitel” until December 5th, when the authorities tested specimens to confirm the variant of the virus is Omicron. The two women are being kept under observation for an additional seven days and have not been discharged.

seriously though if Omicron really is mild and a way out of the pandemic to endemic then surely once they know the death rate they should just open the planet and be done with it. Isolating the mildly

Sorry , but the best thing for the planet would be a high transmission rate and high mortality .

But not while on their plane? Or in the airport?

So two Thai women arrived on Nov 24.

An American arrived on Nov. 29.

Sure testing was done, apparently at different times but I think thailand gets the gold and the silver, with the U.S. chap getting the bronze medal?

Or maybe they measure time differently here?

There is a lot to be learned about this variant and what effect it has on the infected.   Omicron has picked up a lot of mutations and my concern is how this happened and if it has something going on that makes it more susceptible to mutating, in which case it could be more problematic down the road.  But that's speculation.

Unless this variant has some big surprises, I suspect the world will generally move toward greater mobility and fewer restrictions.  Sometimes pandemics end when people tire of trying to deal with it.  The disease doesn't go away, but how people react to it does.   I think a level of pandemic-fatigue is well underway.

Don't you think we should try and delay it a bit until we know more?

One thing that i can't seem to find any articles about, is what if omicron really is so mild as we hope it is, and it eventually replaced all other variants in the world.

Are we then home safe, or could a new mutation from the omicron become way more dangerous than let's say the delta?

What authorities, and what test determines its omicron?

Love to see the science involved in that.

Best thing for the planet - high transmissability, low mortality...end this circus.

Several people in SA posting reporting on Dr Campbell's YT blog, all saying omicron is wildly infectious and spreading like wildfire around them but everybody is getting only mildly ill and fully recovering after 2-3 days.

The story?  Is there a double standard based on the story which isn't surprising since I've heard it before.  Thais arrived Nov 24th, UNVACCINATED  yet all these constant talk of of people having to apply for a C.O.E. / Thailand Pass / Sandbox / Move on....   and all the requirements that comes with it.

Based on the article the time line and how reality works they were in contact with people while on their trip. While they continue to smoke and mirror about tourist coming in and the problems they bring including the recent survey that a great majority of Thais believe they should continue to shut them out the problem has from the beginning, now and in the future be the double standard.

Prior to April outbreak there were stories already how Thais were going in and out of Thailand to work from other Asian countries, without going through the required protocols. Then you got the massive amount of illegal immigrants being brought daily even today with this double standard of stupidity!  As we stand by and hope for the best the reality the past although not indicative of the future as they say the outcome seems pretty obvious.  Brace yourself if it happens because they are still not ready don't have a clue the lights are on but there isn't anyone home!

What country? S. American, ? N. American ? Central American?

This is getting so boring. Can we talk about something else and stop all the hand wringing over Covid in general? Pretty soon we’ll be counting flu cases, common colds, sniffles and pink eye.

Not all Americans come from the States, so really , where is he from?

Good that they had to go into quarantine upon returning to Thailand.

If they had a "quick pass" for being nationals that could have back-fired.

I just hope the rest of the aircraft passengers were tested appropriately?

The other double standard is that the fully vaccinated foreigner was immediately sent to a hospital despite being asymptomatic, while the unvaccinated Thais (who would not even have required pre-flight Covid tests under Thai entry rules) were allowed to stay in a cheaper and more comfortable "hospitel".

...they were probably indoors all the time they were there...studying ceiling patterns, so another 14 days won't hurt.

That explains the drop in "Nigerian Romance Scams" this past two weeks

I got vaccinated in March and a booster in September. It looks like sooner or later everyone will be exposed to omicron, so I'm halfway thinking I'd rather be exposed now, while I'm still well-vaxxed, rather than later. Seems like a crazy idea though.

Your not going to stop Omicron, in a month there will be many cases. So far no deaths anywhere, so get yourself vaccinated and put up with the mild side affects if you get it.

Two more? Has the zero button malfunctioned again on their calculator?

In the year 2020, all the governments counted the Covid cases in their countries, and in the year 2021 they counted the Delta variant (including the the other variants).
I guess in the year 2022 they are going to count the Omicron variant cases.

Later, there will be variants by continents or variants by countries as well.
Do they realize that many people are getting poorer day after day?
Is our future going to just be counting the virus variants?

They were Christian translators, Ok then 'nuf said, my missus keeps miss-pronouncing Omicron as Ohmygod so she has been right all this time.  ????

Regardless of its lethality, Omicron spreads like wildfire everywhere. It's possible that virtually everyone will catch it.

We know that it is mostly mild in young populations, but that is true for all variants of this virus. What happens when it hits an older population remains unreported.

Our fellow posters here who are vaccine hesitant better finish up their research and get the jab.

So in other words, just another annual flu. I've got the BS variant with runny nose, better alert the media, I think this one spread quick.

The virus doesn't care about poverty. It just looks for hosts.
