A Danish family has been placed in isolation in Thailand after their 18-year-old daughter tested positive for Covid-19 upon arrival in the country. 

 

According to BT, the family departed for Thailand on 20 December for what was supposed to be a Christmas and New Year holiday. Before departure, they feel that they took all precautions as well as familiarizing themselves with the applicable travel restrictions, and all tested negative before getting on the plane. Upon arrival at Phuket Airport, they were tested again before they were taken to their hotel on Koh Lanta in the province of Krabi five hours away. 

 

Here they had to stay in their hotel room while waiting for the results to come back. The five-hour transfer was not something the family had originally booked, but something that the travel agency Tui, through which they have booked the trip, had organized because it is currently not possible to fly directly to Krabi. The transfer had been sold as a two-hour drive, not five.

It is a risk but it's fine to travel, take care, be a responsible adult. 

This family is looking for someone to blame, it's clearly the daughter's fault, she was probably out partying, having a good time socializing before her holiday to Thailand, when she should have been in a bubble keeping herself clean before traveling. 

 

If you take the risk, traveling in these covid times it can be a costly mistake, if you become infected, minimize your risk by keeping away from others.

 

Be accountable for your actions, stop blaming others. 

Now, the sad photo of her, we all need to feel sorry for the 18yo.

^^ Bit presumptuous and cynical. Could have caught it anywhere, most likely airport-flight. Maybe you can get the shaft yourself someday so we can all gloat. 
 

Do think however you’ve got to be a bit loopy to want to holiday in Thailand at this time, given their current Orwellian policies.

I read today that a family from norway is stucked in thailand after their 2 kids testet positive.Maybe they cant go back home before in january.To be honest if people take the risk going to thailand this time its their own fault.

Added to that the risk of being positive on arrival in Thailand. The chances are high when one considers how contagious the Omicron is, and how lucrative a positive can be for authorities on arrival!

I really don't understand why people still come for holiday to Thailand (or even retirement). There are nicer places to choose from...

Anyone travelling to Thailand now should plan to do full quarantine.

 

Omicron is spreading there is a very high chance in January you will get infected during days 1 to 6 in Thailand as Omicron spreads.......trouble is you have to have a PCR on day 6 and so....you cannot ignore it, you will end up with 10 days in isolation from day 6.

 

Madness for anyone to travel into Thailand January/February unless you really have to - and you are prepared for a full quarantine/isolation stay.

 

Omicron is like a highly infectious cold but with a PCR test on day 6 - all arrivals are going to run then risk of all being positive by day 6 though local infection.

Like what? Vietnam, Cambodia, Philippines, Costa Rica, Colombia, Portugal, where? I would think any such opinion of "nicer" (meaning what? exchange rate, people, government, visa, climate, cost of living, food, scenery, healthcare, entertainment?) would be rather subjective but since you seem to know this as fact, please enlighten us on those much nicer places. Thailand has its downsides so I'm interested in learning of where it would be nicer for all of us?

First of many stories to come about testing positive on arrival.

Omicron spreads as easily as the common cold and infects quickly. 

Travelling through multiple airports, multiple planes, buses and taxis is like playing russian roulette.

Know of a family who thought it was a good idea to do the same but one of the children tested positive before even leaving for Thailand.

Then you have to do it all again to get home. 

Can't fix stupid. Need your head examining to fly half way round the world during a pandemic.

Exactly why back in Nov some of my family cancelled coming over at Christmas to see me. The risks for a toursit family traveling to Thailand were never worth it.

I'm guessing the risks aren't widely advertised by the travel agents selling the holidays.

But IMHO anyone bringing their teen female children to Thailand (at any time past or present) probably needs their heads examined.

This is exactly that kind of scenario that makes me wonder why families would want to come to holiday in Thailand at this time.

 

I'd imagine most do some research, find such a report and decide to postpone their trip until things are back to normal, but still, some seem to chance it.
