Yeah, it's not a boring crime documentary with whites in all protagonist roles. Few here will appreciate it. I will, of course, check it out. The original GOT started out relatively slowly as they introduced the players. I expect the same here. 2
The Hammer2021 Posted August 21, 2022 Posted August 21, 2022 Red Rose is a very successful BBC - Netflix co production related to the team that produced Sex Education. Red Rose, set in Greater Manchester, mainly in the town of Bolton is a mystery- horror - thriller in a style comparable to Black Mirror. It involves a bunch of teenagers just starting their summer holiday which goes frighteningly wrong. Interesting production team with a high percentage of women - produced by the 'Clarkson Twins' with a great cast of young northern actors and actresses. I would recommend this intriguing well written thriller and on the basis of 'Red Rose' I'll check out 'Sex Education ' which I had previously avoided because of its potential for glib wokeism. 1

I couldn't stand GOT because I gave up on sword and sorcery when I was a teenager so I have no interest in Red Dragon. People with wings? I can't suspend my disbelief but for those who can it was compelling viewing just as Breaking Bad, The Wire and The Sopranos was for others. So I won't be watching it but will be following the debate and comparison with interest. 1

First time I've used this site for streaming, so not impressed, prefer a straight download. I use tinyzonetv.to Fmovies.w - f since I started streaming from these sites I've forgotten how to bit torrent

The Spy Who Came In From The Cold (1965). A superb movie in all ways based on the book of same name by one of the best spy novelists ever, John le Carré. A true spy thriller. Richard Burton was nominated for the Academy award for Best Actor but Lee Marvin beat him out for his performance in Cat Ballou. Having seen both movies my pick would have been Burton. A shame for a great actor; Burton had in his career one nomination for Best Supporting Actor and six for Best Actor but never walked away with an Oscar. I saw it at the films back in the 60s. That and the Ipcress File

Mutt Daeng Posted August 22, 2022 Posted August 22, 2022 I recently watched Dangerous Curve (The Killing) season 1. It's a crime drama set in Cairo, about the investigation into the murder of a social media influencer found dead in the car of a national club electoral candidate. It was pretty good IMHO and worth a look. I got it from TGx. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt20854884/
Mutt Daeng Posted August 22, 2022 Posted August 22, 2022 I'm currently watching Cambridge Spies season 1. Its the true story of a group of Cambridge University Students who are recruited to spy for the Soviet Union in the early 1930s. One of them (Kim Philby) even became Head of Counter-Intelligence in MI6. Pretty good so far IMHO and worth a look. I got it from solid torrents. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0346223/
Thailand Posted August 22, 2022 Posted August 22, 2022 Watched House of the Dragon first episode, considering it was introducing new characters quite acceptable.

homeseeker Posted August 22, 2022 Posted August 22, 2022 I recently viewed a true crime documentary on Netflix called; "Murder by the Coast". Breathtaking example of a miscarriage of justice due to prejudice.

It turned out there was a fourth man. Anthony Blunt. A close friend of the queen mother. George Blake, another member of the spy ring escaped the night I was in London nearby the prison he was being escorted from. One of the themes of these treasonous spies who betrayed Britain was there middle class and upper class origins and academic backgrounds very similar to wokeism these days. The other feature was 'homosexuality'- the term 'Gay' was not in use at the time in its current usage. There are quite a few other productions, plays movies, books and drama about The Cambridge Ring and their treacherous betrayed of their homeland to support Stalin's and Khrushchevs murderous regime and perverse ideology. 2

At least I try to write intelligent reviews and commentaries on a broad range of topics and a variety of productions. Some people just scan jpgs from websites which try to promote an ideological agenda with little or no entertainment value and zero personal opinion or textual support thus giving the impression they haven't actually watched these worthy but dull polemical pieces but rather patronisingly think we should! 1 1
seedy Posted August 22, 2022 Posted August 22, 2022 I watch every movie I post about. How else would I know to make a recommendation. I refrain from making long winded, arrogant assessments to offer examples of my knowledge and acumen. Want to watch it - watch it Don't want to watch it - don't watch it. I guess the post above mine is in the 10% bracket 1 1
giddyup Posted August 22, 2022 Posted August 22, 2022 This is the worst drought for TV shows and movies that I've ever experienced. It's got to the point where I've even exhausted all repeats of favourites. There must be a lot of people out of work in the film industry. Tough times. 2 1

It's got to the point where I've even exhausted all repeats of favourites. There must be a lot of people out of work in the film industry. Tough times. I was thinking exactly the same thing giddyup, so have taken to hunting out movies from long ago, which I can't remember anything about, and over the past few weeks I've watched the following: – – The Conversation, with Gene Hackman, and I remember seeing it in the 70s when it was released and not fully understanding what it was all about, so I thought I would watch it again just the other day, and nothing's changed, I'm still not fully sure what it's all about! – The Marathon Man, with Dustin Hoffman, and I couldn't remember anything about that from an earlier viewing, but it was an entertaining movie, although difficult to follow in the early stages. – The French Connection, again with Gene Hackman and Roy Scheider, and I must have seen it all those years ago, but enjoyed it this time round. – Blade Runner, the original with Harrison Ford as the star, and I did like it although I have seen it more than once. I also watched the later version with Ryan Gosling and thought that was good too. – The Three Days of the Condor, great movie with Robert Redford. May well get "The Big Short" out of my "library" and watch that again because it's a damn good movie, also a short while ago I watched the movie "Live by Night" with Ben Affleck again, and that is one of my favourite movies at the moment. Still hunting round for some more oldies which I either haven't seen or can't remember, so the hunt goes on.............. 2
IvorBiggun2 Posted August 22, 2022 Posted August 22, 2022 Just finished watching the first episode of 'Slow Horses'. Brilliant. I hope it stays that way? 2
