Huay Khwang police raided the Khao Soi restaurant at 4 am on News Year's Day, reported INN.

It is located in Soi Ratchadaniwet, sub-soi 10.

The media said there were many Thais and foreigners drinking and taking drugs at the establishment when Pol Col Yingyot Suwanno and other officers came calling.

They found eight ecstasy pills in a bag, five grams of ketamine in nine bags and drug taking straws all strewn on the floor.

In attendance were 40 patrons - 23 men and 17 women.

Urine tests showed the presence of drugs in 17 men and ten women.

Sorawuth Khongkham identified himself as the manager and was charged with contravening infectious disease laws, serving alcohol when forbidden and opening after hours.

The patrons were all charged under the infectious disease laws and for drug taking if they tested positive.

The media suggested that the place was more than a restaurant and in fact prostitution was taking place.

Well I guess they were deliberately trying to test positive for anything other than Omicron! ????

Presumably the dessert menu had Thai Tart on it...

Come on aseannow. Why can't the headline be 'Dozens of people arrested?' Instead of Thais and foreigners? You're encouraging xenophobia and it doesn't need much encouragement.????

And how many men in these women?

For some unfathomable reason, on a forum read mostly by foreigners, that has become the norm in recent months. I suspect it is one person in the office who does this, and it needs stamping on. Maybe by employing an objective and unbiased headline writer in his/her place.

I can't tell what nationality anyone there is just by looking. They are probably Asian but other than that how is it possible to know they aren't Cambodian or Laotian for example?

Because Cambodian and Laotians wouldn't be hanging out in a location like that unless they were cooking food and cleaning.

Their IDs are too small for my old eyes to discern........

Darn people wanting to gather and party. grrrr.  They should all just stay home and be nice peasants.

Booze and drugs,  oh my.  This new generation, only want to have fun.

Even bad publicity is good publicity, we even know which sub  soi it’s on lol

Thaivisa re-publishes aggregated news from other sources and cannot alter those articles and the original report in Thai, essentially, says the same thing in its title.  Zenophobia doesn't come into it as far as Thaivisa is concerned.

Thaivisa didn't write the article or the headline!

So you can see all those people sitting down at the back of that room obscured by those standing in front of them all with their faces hidden by masks?   What vision you have.

I understand. Of course the Thai media reports articles differentiating the races. This is what they do. The Health Minister is a good example of xenophobia here.   But your last sentence doesn't alter the fact that those sort of headlines fuel xenophobia..

I never said it was likely just possible..

Bang off an irate letter to "INN", then, give them a piece of your mind even though the first reference to nationality in the headline is "Thais", not foreigners, there's no suggestion of xenophobia there!

That’s why these “journalists” can get away with it, but we know its just local thais.
