So now for the next 5 years the media will announce twice a week that cannabis is to be legalised and that Thailand is to reopen for tourism.

So does this mean we can legally smoke it?

If not then what changes?

I read the article and it says it's it's going to be classed with magic mushrooms and opium..

..

I read that also weeks ago, Opium class 5 drug !!!!!! a very highly additive drug. I wouldn't get to exited folks on this announcement, it will be for medical use only, but to say opium is class 5 is just lunacy. more government miss-information IMO

NO and Nothing.

I ''ve just acquired a couple of ex-sniffer dogs from Suvarnabhumi.

I was told they were no good now for that  type of  work. They were falling down on the job.

This is the one valid issue with legalizing weed. And it is not easily solved.

Now do meth.

Because controlling meth-crazed vehicle operators is working so well.

The stoner bus driver will get fired for taking three days to drive the route between Bangkok and Chiang Mai.

There are many, many, many issues that need to be addressed regarding cannabis normalization. DWS is not even in the top 100.

That said, recreational cannabis will NOT be legalized here, at least not in the next 10 years.

The idea that this group of coup leaders are 'progressive' in looking at casinos, weed etc. is hilarious. there is only one motivator here, as usual.....money. If they and their cronies can make mountains ps dosh out of it it is a good thing, otherwise.....forget it.

I'm confused as ever on this issue. Does this mean smoking/ingesting pot will become legal ? I think not.

I also did the same journey drunk (and once on Acid but that's a different story altogether)

Driving on acid? No way I could imagine doing that.

Not yet, but simply being decriminalized is a big step forward.

As stated, simply a cash grab, as nothing else left to tax, and all that is taxed already, is at the threshold of acceptable.

That was my chemical of choice, and would never attempt driving while on that.  Being a passenger was weird enough ????????

Who said anything about 0.2% CBD?

Think they meant THC, not CBD.  From the article:

"Food and Drug Administration received an approval letter from the Justice Ministry "

"extract from all parts of cannabis or hemp with the tetrahydrocannabinol content of over 0.2% by weight"

Legally only 0.2% THC content, as of today, but if this passes and is published in the Royal Gazette, then 120 days later it will be legal to dispense cannabis with higher than 0.2% THC content is how I read it

Things finally seem to be moving forward as far as i can see ... If there is no prison time for a personal crop, I could live with that.

Thanks but I understood this part to mean literally "extracts" like oils and concentrates. ie nothing whatsoever to do with dried and cured buds, which are, of course, not an extract of any sort.

Looks like we will all have to wait until the new law is published in the Royal Gazette and then see if it is any more clear.

let's hope that Mr Anutin has also taken measures for an effective control of drivers under the influence of this drug - it is a drug, whether people like it or not-.

it's necessary when you see the staggering number of drunk drivers in thailand

I agree. Drivers are much safer stoned than drunk. I congratulate you on your enlightened attitude.

Mine too - some nights out I'll never forget on that stuff.

As opposed to the fog, easily forgotten alcohol & ganga nights  ... ????

The anti cannabis folks always use ganga as the entry drug to worse drugs, as their argument to keep illegal.   Sorry, but don't know anyone that started with ganga.  Alcohol was always the entry drug for everyone I know, and legal.

As I understand it, decriminalized means no criminal law sanctions. more like parking ticket violation. Fines of course are still in play. Failure to pay these fines could mean criminal sanctions, but highly unlikely.

Canada skipped decriminalization and went straight to legalized recreation use. To my knowledge this is true of most, if not all, American states that surrendered in the War on Drugs  ????

To all the old folks who see the imminent collapse of the social order, I can only say that you are laboring under the effects of decades of anti-drug propaganda. It has not happened in any of the legalizing countries/states. So I would politely request that you stop regurgitating this propaganda in this thread so the rest of us can celebrate in peace. ????

But not impossible. UK police now have had a breath test for cannabis and cocaine since 2015. If positive a blood test will then be done for other drugs. Not a perfect solution but at least a deterrent.

Dutch traffic police have been doing combined alcohol and drug tests from since I can remember. It's fairly easy to incorporate into the system. I suspect though that drunk driving is a much bigger issue in Thailand than stoned driving.

from reading a few of the threads on here since this "legalisation/decriminalisation/etc" was announced , it seems that no one really knows what will be legal or not .

Say what you will about this junta government - they have been suprisingly liberal in some areas - doing commissions on legalizing gambling, decriminalizing weed....just hope they will move forward with same sex civil union rights.

they are decriminalizing hemp, hardly liberal. it's more trickery, like 'quarantine free'. click the link in the OP and there is this:

Under the new announcement, Category 5 narcotics will consist of poppy, magic mushroom and extract from all parts of cannabis or hemp with the tetrahydrocannabinol content of over 0.2% by weight. (TNA)

a personal crop of hemp, don't excited. it's more tricks and confusion from this admin. the link in the article states:

nicotine is the true gateway drug, but you'll never hear the tax revenue dept admit that!

"extract" is the key word as to what is allowed .

if a plant is grown , cut and left to dry , then smoked in a joint , what part of the plant  has had something extracted and put into a joint ?

Flowers are not an extract, so I am excited again. Of course it could very well lead to more disappointment in the near future, just like all the other announcements over the past 3 years.

This one.

This parsing of the word "extract" is irrelevant.

Even hard-core pro-cannabis thais are not that excited, and many remain confused.

The "Act" which was "signed" with great fanfare yesterday.

It still reads as extracts to me which is not flowers and specifically mentions extractions ... I am only reading the translation but remaining (semi) optimistic ????

Edit ... oh ! just read clause 2 ...optimism fading

Now would be a good time of year to starts.I'm looking for some viable seeds.I had a couple going last season but they got killed by bugs.

Can we finally get our cannabis cup competiton underway ?! (still confused by the actual law) ... There are a few good seed banks that deliver worldwide, off the top of my head, I think msnl and gorilla seeds are 2 of them ????

Do you plan to grow indoors or outdoors? If the latter you'll probably want a local species (light cycle, humidity, bugs, rainy season). In fact you'll probably be legally - well not you as aliens will not be allowed to grow - and yes I know some have thai wives - mandated to grow one of the eight approved strains (well, eight for THC, and another eight for CBD). But the strain Issara 01 is 1:1 I think?

Importing of seeds is amazingly legal, although that loophole is supposed to be closed with this new initiative.

There are local thais who import seeds and resell them, all legal today. Both photos and autos, both feminized. FB, IG.
