Daily News Thai Caption: Younger sister of famous presenter

Officers of Thailand's ECD - Economic Crime Division - arrested 38 year old Napassorn on a warrant issued on February 11th for defrauding the public.

She was picked up in front of a house in Kram sub-district of Klaeng, Rayong.

Daily News reported that the suspect is the younger sister of a famous Thai presenter.

It is claimed that in 2020 and 2021 via Facebook she offered high rates in a short term investment scam.

Instead of coming through with her fake promises she made off with 13 million, it is alleged.

Victims were fobbed off with excuses until the police got involved.

Police warned the public about getting involved in "too good to be true" investments online.

Daily News didn't say who she was related to.

". . .  the suspect is the younger sister of a famous Thai presenter."

Who is about to become even more famous as the family name is dragged into the mud.

I know of a Thai woman (well educated and well to do) who was scammed out of 400k Baht in a similar fashion. She sent the money to an acquaintance with the promise of 8% return in 10 days... When she didn't get her money back, she was told she could get paid back in beauty products instead for the same value ????

Her husband lost his <deleted> and their relationship has been very rocky since then unfortunately.

She also had to get a lawyer and is suing the scammer, which has been ongoing for almost a year now and with no positive results yet.

I asked her why she did it, she said because her income had decreased during Covid while her expenses increased due to her helping out struggling relatives.

Unfortunately what is clearly a scam to most of us isn't to many in SE Asia.

Reminds me of an occasion when I was walking in Phnom Penh with a friend of mine and his Filipino wife. A rather shabby looking character walked up to us and offered a $50 note, 2 x $20 notes and a $10 note for $50. We immediately said no and the conversation between me and his wife went:

HER: But why, it's a good deal?

ME: They are fake

HER: But how do you know they are fake?

Especially gambling...

Lots of GOOD DEALS these days from Crypto Scams to Foreign Exchange

Scams promising multi thousands of dollars profit if you just UPPED

your minimum " INVESTMENT " ......

plus  ITEMS at too good to be believed prices offered through ads

posted in Social Medias through " drop ship " method and NO WAY

to claim your money back if you're not satisfied , even through PayPal.

Judging from her blank stare she has no idea as to why she has been charged....

Seems she came back. With Thailand having unique family names, did she really think she could get away with it?

'Do you know who my sister/brother is?  Uncuff me at once.'

Thai's and there get rich quick scams.

Got to laugh.

Greed at it's best.

TIT.

Sounds like the people in Pattaya who recently invested with a guy who worked in a well know bank. They are offered fabulous returns then are surprised when it turns out to be a scam.

It was very well executed though, it took over 10 years in the making, takes some serious cunning skills.

That scam is almost a piece of modern art, the perpetrator should enlist for "Asia's Got Talent", I'd wager he has his chances to win the contest!

Irrespective of their level of education, many Thai women always strike me as remarkably naive. Add to that the imperative that they feel for helping relatives, which is in so many ways praiseworthy, but so often causes them problems...

As you say, what a world we live in!
