Assault on Kiev: Russian helicopters swoop above Ukraine's capital

BS.  Do you think this is how Russia wanted the war to be fought?

If the US, UK, and EU were bags of wind there wouldn't be so much hysterical denunciation of the weapons supplied from Russia and Russia supporters.

Russia obviously didn't expect it would turn out bad with plan 'A' therefore plan 'B' which by most resent account is going well.

If Ukraine has all the weapons you believe is being supplied why are they running low on ammunition and still keep asking for long range artillery.

Saying Plan B is going well is a stretch.  By all credible accounts Russia is sacrificing a lot of men for small gains in territory.  It remains to be seen how much territory Russia has when it finally gives up on throwing people into the meat grinder.  Then Russia must face the task of holding onto this territory.

Every army wants more of everything.  I guarantee you that the Russian generals also want more of everything.  Once again; if the weapons provided by the west weren't making a difference there wouldn't be the hysterical denunciations by Russia and Russia supporters of the delivery of the weapons.

That's pretty obvious and what happens in every war but nothing to do with Russian helicopters over Ukrainian capital and in the west of Ukraine and how the war is progressing.

Going on about war crimes, personal hatred of another country or person just hi-jack's the thread.

Weren't those helicopters laid to rest nicely on the first day of the invasion when they tried to take the airbase near Kiev and got repelled by the Ukrainians? Not much more to talk about on that front.

Since then the the amount of war crimes committed have been one of the sadder aspects of this attack that makes it so notable and forms very much part of the progression of Russia's barbarism.

More realities you prefer not to talk about

Personally I wouldn't guarantee anything we will see how things develope and whether all the promises of more weaponry for Ukraine materialisey.

I still hold the view it will only prolong the war but hopefully bring Russia to negotiate.

Yes of course, waste all that precious ammo, grenades and manpads, have bullets whizzing past your head just for a set up. Perhaps the reality is that when they are fighting they use cross bows..............????

Putin also thinks its pointless going on about war crimes, the international community does not including Ukraine

You keep defending the indefensible. Please explain to me how mentioning/discussing Russian warcrimes means hijacking this thread. War crimes are war crimes, no matter how you slice it, and the Russian army is committing them wholesale, on a daily basis. Or are you saying they aren’t? Because there is plenty of evidence already, and probably much more to come.

To keep going about crimes while the war raging is pointless wait until the war is over.

Ukraine’s ‘Nuremberg Moment’ Amid Flood of Alleged Russian War Crimes

10th June 2022

As Russia continues its assault on Ukraine, top Biden administration officials are working behind the scenes with the Ukrainian government and European allies to document a tsunami of war crimes allegedly committed by Russian forces.

But the sheer volume of the documented war crime cases could be too overwhelming for Ukraine’s justice system as well as for the International Criminal Court (ICC), raising questions of how many cases will be brought to trial and how many accused Russian war criminals could ultimately face justice.

“This is a Nuremberg moment in terms of just the sheer scale of the breach of the rules-based international order that has been perpetrated by Russia in this invasion,” said Beth Van Schaack, the U.S. ambassador-at-large for global criminal justice.

Ukraine reports 15,000 suspected war crimes

Around 15,000 suspected war crimes have been reported in Ukraine since the war began, with 200 to 300 more reported daily, its chief prosecutor said.

Some 600 suspects have been identified and 80 prosecutions have begun, Iryna Venediktova told reporters in The Hague.

The list of suspects includes "top military, politicians and propaganda agents of Russia", she added.

Lets also not forget the 2 British and 1 Moroccan sentenced to death by a kangaroo court which I seem to remember you discussing in a few posts

Really?  Is there any justice system in any country that says war crimes should not be investigated and prosecuted until after the war?

Of the 40 billion the US approved in May,6 billion was for military equipment.

But this month they only offered one billion for equipment.

It sends mixed messages as to whether they have the equipment to provide or want to prolong and draw out it out as long as possible.

For one thing most of their artillery takes shells that conform to Russian specs and they can't get any more shells. For another, it takes time to train troops to use the new artillery.

False. The 1 Billion was an additional amount available from a fund of 11 billion that Biden can use at his discretion.

Here's the breakdown for direct defense related funds

"The package includes almost $15 billion for defense operations and maintenance, which includes $6 billion for the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative and $8.7 billion to replenish stocks of U.S. equipment sent to Ukraine.

The legislation authorizes up to a further $11 billion in Presidential Drawdown Authority, which allows the president to authorize the transfer of articles and services from U.S. stocks without congressional approval in response to an emergency."

Here's some good news for the EU and bad news for Russia.

In landmark deal signed in Cairo, Israel to export natural gas, via Egypt, to Europe

Israel, Egypt and the European Union signed a memorandum of understanding on Wednesday in Cairo that will see Israel export its natural gas to the bloc for the first time.

The landmark agreement will increase liquified natural gas sales to EU countries, which are aiming to reduce dependence on supply from Russia in the wake of its invasion of Ukraine.

https://www.timesofisrael.com/israel-eu-egypt-agree-deal-to-export-natural-gas-to-europe/

The article is deficient in one major respect: it doesn't say how much gas will be shipped and how much that will reduce EU dependence on Russia.

The Ukraine is running out of Soviet era ammo and that is not being made anymore so they

hope they can get some from other countries who still have it.

They are asking for long range artillery so they can hit the Russians but the Russian

guns can not reach them.

Makes things a lot easier for the Ukrainian soldiers.

I say give them the tools so they can finish the job.

Is there a reason that the US would like to draw this war out as long as possible?

The details you are looking for are all in a video posted earlier with Austin and Gen. Milley

The 2 US soldiers recently captured are now having their fates discussed on Russian TV

Meanwhile on Russian state TV, they're already discussing the death penalty as the only possible outcome for two Americans, Alexander John-Robert Drueke and Andy Tai Ngoc Huynh, reportedly captured by Russian forces in Ukraine [which is yet to be confirmed].

Austrian public broadcast today put the volume of this deal at 6 to 7% of total russian gas imports into EU, apparently of the already reduced 'current' imports after some Baltic states, Finland and I believe Netherlands already told them where to shove it ...

Do you think this kind of equipment and the knowledge needed to operate it magically appears where needed the day after spending is authorized?

I would amend that to relatively well. But that's a low bar to clear considering what a disaster the attempt to capture Kiiv was. For one thing, not only did Russian forces fail to capture Kharkiv, Ukraine's second largest city, but they were pushed back all the way into Russia. For another, Ukraine has recaptured some territory in the south. And despite the fact that the Ukrainians are outnumbered and outgunned in Severodonetsk, Russian progress there has been painfully slow.

A third American citizen may be missing in Ukraine; Russia expected Kyiv to fall in 12 hours, Ukraine defense minister says:

A third American who traveled to Ukraine to lend assistance in the war against Russia appears to be missing, amid growing indications the other two have been captured.

State Department spokesman Ned Price told reporters Thursday the department has been in contact with the family of the third U.S. citizen believed to be missing but did not reveal the person's name.
