Pornmet is lucky the Pakistani died.  Now it is just a matter of one lump sum payment and he can get on with his life.

I have been here a very long time and remember the day when the Bangkok bus driver ran over a pedestrian.  Then seeing that he was still alive reversed back over him a couple of times to ensure there was no ongoing payments.

Isn't the Death Penalty for DUI where somebody gets killed. That would be one less Idiot we'd need to contend with!

The normal sentence is 50,000 baht. However, if the culprit is rich and famous the English-speaking press hound them for more.

btw, alcoholism is a disease, have some compassion.

Manop said that investigations continue as to with whom and where Pornmet was drinking.

Why would that matter?

They can find witnesses to how many drinks he had, over what period, and whether he exhibited drunk behavior.  The establishment can be held liable if they served an already drunk patron.  They may have been serving alcohol during banned hours.

Lots of good reasons for tracking his movements if they're planning to prosecute.

The biggest LIE;   Equal justice under the law.

Not only in Thailand that money talks and the rich almost always walks regardless of the evidence or crime.

Like testing positive over the blood alcohol limit and mowing down innocent riders with random lane changes......

Well, the Pakistani refugee cannot file a complaint so it is questionably a wild guess, if the boy will face anything like "voluntary manslaughter". That is, what it is all about; if you are drinking over your limit then you purposely and willingly risk being no longer able to control your vehicle as you could when sober.

Lets wait and see; I - for one - am not holding my breath and do not expect any surprises or deviations from the status quo I've seen over the last decades in the land of skilled drivers ????

Wirachai was sacked from the RTP after leaking a tape to the media between himself and former RTP chief Pol Gen Chakthip Chaijinda.

Is it possible the top brass are still plssed off at Wirachai and so will let his kid cop the full brunt of the law + to partly counter balance the situation with Boss ? ????

If I was as rich as this guy I'd be getting my drivers to do the driving when I'm on the turps.

You're right, many would do the same. Or get a good old cab, or Uber/Grab. But that's for more intelligent people. In Thailand, stoking one's ego and maintaining 'face' is a necessity, so it's much, much cooler to rock up to a party in one's own sports/super car. Bonus 'face value' awarded if one accessorises the passenger seat with a 'pretty'. In that section of society, showing-off is allowed, condoned even. Chauffeur-driven land-barges are reserved for incontinent old bags and, at 29, I am sure K. Pornmet doesn't want to appear like one.

I guess... ????

"The rich son of a billionaire" 5555

I thought if you are a billionaire, you are rich.

How those military and police officers are able to amass such wealth and get away with it, without questioning.
Everyone should take pictures of their cars, houses etc and publish it and ask publicly, how they got the money.
If they were so rich before joining the force, well, they would not need to work anyway.

Another billionaire ex-RTP General. Remind me, what is the salary for an RTP General?

40,000 plus 650,000  (monthly) in commission in various business interests, I was told.... (forgot who told me this).
