Bangkok – The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is proud to launch an exciting new version of the ever-popular board game Monopoly – ‘Monopoly: Phuket Edition’.

 

Made under official license from Hasbro by Winning Moves UK, the Monopoly: Phuket Edition board game features more than 30 locations and activities in Phuket province, including popular landmarks and attractions such as Promthep Cape (on the game’s most prestigious square, Mayfair), Kata Beach, Chao Fah Variety Market (or Naka Market), Old Town Phuket and renowned diving spot Coral Island.

 

Miss Sadudee Sangnil, Director of TAT London Office, said, “The development of Monopoly: Phuket Edition has been a fun project and creative way to showcase one of Thailand’s much-loved beach destinations. It is an exciting opportunity for TAT to highlight the variety the island offers from accommodation and attractions to beaches and shopping, especially as travel to Thailand resumes.”

 

Officially launched at Central Phuket on 19 March, 2022, a giant 5×5 metre version of the new board game was on display for shoppers to explore and Mr. Monopoly himself travelled to Thailand especially for the event and later enjoyed some sightseeing around the island. Supported with digital marketing, social media, and PR, TAT is bringing Phuket to life through the much-loved board game.

I don’t think so it’s been replaced by a stack of brown paper envelopes. The game flows a lot better that way

Unclear remains the availability; when checking on one vendor's website (https://www.booghe.co.uk/products/monopoly-phuket-thailand-edition) it refers to "available 1 April 2022". My goodness gracious me, could it be an April's Fool contribution slightly ahead of calendar? 

On a more serious note, who is buying this board game at UKP 30? The Phuketian locals (i.e. Khon Thai) = most likely not as Thais are more into illegal card games, lottery or cock fights (pun intended). More often than not aggregated by local firewaters in the back of backyards ........

I assume that the Tourism Authority, in its endless wisdom, had yet another inspiration driven by smoking seriously good weed. Wondering how much cash was sunk into the idea with trips between London and Phuket and other fact-finding expenses.

The idea as such, from a (countrywide) tourism promotion board is brilliant but why Phuket which is, in all fairness, not known for its cultural heritage or world-unique nature. A Thailand edition covering the top 30 spots across the land might have made sense ...... 

In closing, editions covering i.e. Bangkok's Soi Cowboy with all the bars or Pattaya with its afternoon refuges might find more takers, but what do I know ...........

The Farang Edition has the 30 year lease option instead.

"Community Scam" and "Fat Chance" are new additions.

You can laugh all you want, but these limited edition board games are better investment than any crypto, stock, real estate or whatever

Permission has been given by "Hasbro".

 

Who owns copyright as a result of its acquisition of "Parker Bros" in 1991.

 

Over 100 hundred licences have since been issued to produce different versions.

Got the original Thai monopoly game around here somewhere.  Haven't played in well over 10 yrs, since daughter grown.  Damn thing was expensive, from Toys R Us.

 

Reminds me, I pinched their name, sort of, when I sold firearms.

i bought a Metaverse related domain name for 16 euro in the middle of November last and sold it 12 days later for US$ 22,888. Once in a lifetime stroke of being aware and incredibly good fortune.

This edition retails at a price of 1499 baht for Thais, and only 5999 baht for farang!
