With a current lifespan of 2500 cycles, 500k+ kms, and that's conservative, I'm pretty sure we'll get our baht's worth,   How much is any car worth in 20+ years.  

 

If they come out with a reasonably priced (750kms range) pick up truck, we may have to make room in the car port for 2 vehicles.   I'm thinking camper conversion

Many problem for used electric in the future. 

At the BKK motor show in 2018 I only saw one EV, the 40 kWh Nissan Leaf with a 8 second 0-100km/h for ฿2m. 
 

A few months ago I bought a BYD Seal AWD with an 85kWh gross battery and a 3.8 second 0-100km/h for ฿1.6m

 

Technology changes, EVs get better and cheaper all the time resulting in many more  problems for used ICE cars in the future.

 

My car comes with 8 years of car and battery warranty and 8 years of free servicing. So I will be keeping for 8 years at least. If the resale price after that is too low, I will use it’s 6 Tesla Powerwalls of battery storage to keep me off-grid.

I love most BYD models, but that looks dull as dishwater. Definitely designed with taxi fleets in mind.

ha, yes it is far from exciting and seems perfect for a taxi or fleet vehicle, seems strange why they would want to release it for the general public.

But, who knows, the price is right and some see the advantage of a decent sized storage area, might see it delivering Lazada and Shopee stuff anytime soon 😀

I reviewed the e6 2 years ago at the Korat EV motor show. Taxi definitely came to mind. It wasn’t a new car even back then.

Take the rear seat out, and a lite 'camper' conversion vs the other 2 vans available (Maxus 9 & Denza D9), that are a bit plush, and priced accordingly, 2.5M range or more.   Waste of money to buy, then strip down something that plush.   

 

e6 for 1M, much more practical to convert, though much smaller.  But seen others camping is smaller cars, but not for me.  Need something that resembles a bed.

It's only a concept and unlikely to make production. Concepts are always outlandish. Odd looking but would be very practical with the wheels right in the corners. Better looking than the horrendous Cybertruck, but that's not saying much. Quirky if we're being kind. I expect it would be massively toned down if it ever does go into production.

The iCar V23 is a production model though and does look very practical and no where near as weird.

I only watched the first 4 minutes, but they lost me when one of the clips was repeated but running backwards and another clip showed Mercedes Benz cars being loaded/unloaded in the port.

Sorry but that channel has absolutely ZERO credibility. It is full of lies, misleading videos, and even fake edits. As JB mentioned, they are repeating clips in reverse, they are showing cars in ports that are neither Chinese nor EVs, you can believe absolutely nothing that they claim. 

The last time I tried to watch one of their videos was about Chinese EVs constantly exploding - they had a compilation that a rabid anti China poster here posted. The very first clip they said was a Chinese EV exploding as it was being charged. In fact it was not a Chinese car, it was not being charged,  it was not even an EV!  It was a VFX stunt from a movie set!

Another one posted here had a shouty headline (as they all do on that channel) that Chinese brands are DUMPING CARS IN FIELDS just to keep sales numbers up and they had video footage! Unfortunately if you looked closely they were all taxis and it turns out they belonged to a ride sharing company that had gone bust. Lies lies lies. So their agenda is clear and they can't be trusted.

China Observer is owned by Vision Times / Kanzhongguo, a Falun Gong funded anti Chinese organisation. Vision Times published a report that doctors recovered from COVID-19 by reciting the nine sacred words of Falun Gong and also that Chinese political leaders were interested in eating human brains.

I know you didn't post it as factual, merely interesting, but please be aware that it is a clearly anti Chinese channel that has been caught publishing lies countless times. All their videos are fudged. Zero credibility. What saddens me is reading the YT comments, all brain dead, propaganda loving, anti Chinese morons that will believe anything they're told.

I mean, look at their channel, they don't even try to pretend it isn't click bait.

 

On to your point, there is currently an issue in Europe of cars not being moved out of ports quickly enough but the shipping companies put this down to a shortage of trucks and drivers and it is affecting all imports, not just Chinese cars.  The Chinese, however, are at a disadvantage as hauliers prioritise regular clients, rather than new ones. There is a good balanced article in the Financial Times about this issue with no shouty yellow and red ALL CAPS headlines and no fake videos.

Looks like a hybrid. I think I see a tailpipe. There has been quite a few reports of BYD hybrids catching fire.

 

Notice also the fire starting in the engine compartment rather than battery pack which would have been located on the bottom of the car.

Right now hybrids are still the most relevant technology. EV's will not become widespread until the next generation of batteries are available. I hear they're working on a new generation of batteries that will double or triple the driving distance, and dramatically reduce the charging time. That is when EV's will become truly relevant.

 

The other issue is charging stations, Thailand is way behind the curve when it comes to charging stations and right now there are a few people that want to stop for a few hours to charge the car. The technology simply has to improve, and likely will.

Solid-state batteries use solid rather than liquid electrolytes, allowing for a greater tolerance of high voltages and temperatures and improving energy density and reducing weight. The challenges are complexity, cost, and the difficulty in delivering long-term durability. Toyota says its first-gen solid-state packs are targeting about 520 miles of range, with a 10-minute 10-to-80 charge capability, but also says that subsequent evolution will likely move peak range up to 630 miles. That figure that would surely be enough to persuade even the most determined EV doubter that long journeys can be accomplished electrically.

 

Moving beyond lithium will be the ultimate next step.

Absolutely nothing wrong with the LFP batteries in BEVs now.  Will there be improvements in the future, density, weight, range, cost ... of course, but takes nothing away from what's available now.

 

Those that want to wait, for new tech to be mass produced at a reasonable price, 5 yrs from now, well feel free, though you are missing out on savings & performance now.
