Endemic Plan Approved, CCSA Endorsement Pending

BANGKOK (NNT) - Plans are underway to treat COVID-19 as an endemic disease, after the Ministry of Public Health held discussions with government agencies and the industrial, tourism and commercial sectors.

 

Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul said the collaborative plan aims to set medical, economical, social and organizational standards that will allow the general public to live safely with the virus.

 

However, authorities may not be able to officially declare COVID-19 an endemic disease without an official classification from the World Health Organization.

The health minister said the endemic designation does not mean the disease is no longer dangerous, adding that the government will need to ensure that the healthcare system remains capable of handling emergency situations.

 

Dr Kiattiphum Wongrachit, permanent secretary of Public Health, said the number of new cases is expected to continue declining and more relaxed measures can be expected between late May and June.

 

He also said the health authority may consider reopening nightclubs, bars and karaoke venues, as well as lowering the alert level from 3 to 2. All of these proposals will require final approval from the Center for COVID-19 Situation Administration.

Still too many 'may's and 'require final approval's for mine and probably your liking !

As said before Thailand hasn't got the balls to run it's own affairs when it comes to health issue 'waiting for the ok from WHO' funny because on other issues Thailand said many times that the US and the UN are 'not our fathers'....

Come on Anutin - you should know whether you need one or not - or is it just your usual lack of knowledge of what is required from your position as Minister of Health?

I don't see what the problem is, what's in a name? Continue to call it a pandemic, if that's what keeps WHO happy, but treat it as an epidemic. It's their country, surely they can set their own rules.

 

What's more of an interest to me is how do they reconcile reopening nightclubs, bars and karaoke venues, without rescinding the so called mask mandate?

The WHO is the last non governmental body you want to listen to.  If they get their way on the upcoming vote, the WHO will have sovereignty over all nations in the UN in mandating how every country needs to act in any " health emergency" that they themselves get to declare without showing any evidence.

Hardly a cash cow, if was not in place tge TAT would be getting tge numbers they dream off. 

Tge Thai pass is still restrictive & a pain in the ass to complete.

Not sure why you think it is a cash cow. 
I have an upcoming 2 week trip stateside and then return to Thailand.
I just completed the Thailand Pass registration.

It was very easy and cost absolutely nothing. 
The approval and QR code arrived within 6 hours. The process accepted my existing health insurance policy without asking for any further documentation. 
No fees , no tests, no hotel reservations were requested or required. 
for those risking living or visiting Thailand without any insurance ( the kind we frequently see online seeking donations or “GoFundme” sites to pay their medical expenses) holding them to be responsible may seem overbearing, but really? If they don’t have insurance and can’t afford to get trip insurance, then they aren’t really the “quality” visitors Thailand (or anywhere else) seeks.
All the hoopla and pearl necklace clutching comments on here seem a bit over dramatic when the Thailand pass was free, easy, and quick. Already having  the QR code will likely expedite the Thai immigration process too.

That's what I expect too. Covid-19 declared endemic, but Thailand Pass, incl. Covid-insurance required for a long time to come...
