O.C.D. What's YOURS?

Featured Replies

We all have our own 'special ways,' which some might say is OCD while others say is normal.

What's YOURS?

- Out on the road, I will do almost anything to avoid having to u-turn ????

- At home I like my furniture parallel with the walls or tile gaps on the floor ????

- On TVs I used to have to insist on the volume being an even number or a 5, 15, 25 etc, but I'm recovering from that. ????????

My wife plays on this. she thinks it's sport but i call it torture!!

i also have a thing whereby i can't relax if i have a job - no matter how menial - is done. I am very uncomfortable if someone says - "I ll do it later".

OCD is a serious and very treatable mental problem. Don't self-diagnose; if you think you have it, talk to a specialist. Lifestyle change and often medication can help. A lot.

If you're using OCD as a funny shorthand for generalized anxiety or garden variety neurosis, that's fine too.

Never do today what you can put off until tomorrow.

That REALLY gets up my nose when we dine out and the staff don't come and clear the table!

Like you it's no problem at home, I just get up and start to do it, which usually shames the rest of the diners to get up and help.

My house, my place, a place for everything and everything in its place. If nit where it is supposed to be I spin in circles like the Tasmanian Devil....a whirling dervish......

Constantly looking behind while at ATM machines(I am American, grew up in Los Angeles and just can’t let this habit go, even though I am in LOS).  Also, double checking to see if my wallet is there and double  checking to make sure my door is locked.  Again, as an American who grew up in Los Angeles this was considered normal.

Mmmmm....very much the same......everything in order.....even by size and symmetry.....banned the wife from my toilet/shower as she keeps moving things around.

I can't stand to continue sitting at the table after I've finished eating. When I see three spoonfuls left on the plate I call for the check. I'm chewing my final mouthful as I walk out the door. Friends who want to continue sitting and visit after we've had lunch together drive me crazy.

At least the restaurantiers must love you.

I can relate to this, I used to run logistics for an interior design company, we would deliver the furniture to the rich and famous - and everything has to be centered, everything has to be balanced, I still do it now, I don’t know if it’s OCD or just creative design awareness.

As you say, it’s easy to fall into the trap of lining everything up with the grouting.

I'm similar at home. The final mouthful is time to move the plate or bowl away from the table.

But in a restaurant I like to chill for 5 minutes.

That's a tall order in Thailand. Do you allow spiders and geckos to remain so that they can gobble up trespassers?

OCD is what I used as a reference to some sportsbike riders in UK.

I'm particularly methodic going about most everything.

What do you do when the grout lines are not parallel to the walls?  The tiles are manufactured with great precision and accuracy, but the concrete structure and walls are often made by hand with less accuracy.

Bank notes in my wallet have to be in order of value, which is probably not unusual. However, they are also sorted by condition - crisper notes get a higher ranking than the tattier ones.

Coins are stacked in order of size. If I pull a handful from my pocket to give the correct change I then re-stack them before putting them back. It's a completely pointless habit (obviously) so I suppose it counts as OCD.

i think it's Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, although I didn't double check it, that would be OCD

Oddly enough have not seen a single spider.......geckos are fine apart from their poo, and we rarely see them.

Have you found the geckos around your toaster yet? I've found one inside and one hiding underneath
